Um. . . my HIV test was rather painless, a mere 3 seconds worth of blood. When it comes to the whole three swab test as well, I cant seem to find many places that still do it. Usually it is now a urine sample, etc.

I had the swab test done when I was in grad school. As they are leading me into the examination room the doctor asks if a nursing student can sit in on the procedure. I say sure, whatever, and 2 minutes later three VERY attractive undergrads walk in to observe me getting the q-tip routine. The whole scene was very reminiscent of the Seinfeld episode. Significant shrinkage.
What made it really bad was the fact that I was a TA for a 600-student Psych class at the time, so the chances that at least one of the three observers was in my class was pretty high.

no it has nothing to do with that. i've been meaning to go just to do it because you *never* know. i'm really not concerned, i haven't had any problems in the past but that doesn't mean that i'm still ok. i just want to go to have a 100% answer.
the new girl i'm dating asked me the other day if i've been tested and it's been on my mind ever since.

Herpes is where is gets tricky- a blood test is available however the majority of people probably test positive for it, because it's very easy to be exposed and subsequently test positive for HSV antibodies. However that doesn't mean you truly are a carrier of the "dreaded" form of herpes that creates sores, etc.
HPV is the most common STD and if you've had sex with someone other than a virgin, well, you've probably got some for of it. There are hundreds of forms of HPV.

While this is noble it doesn't mean you're clean. You can be HIV+ and test negative for up to one year after exposure. The general rule is you'd test positive within 13 weeks, though. HPV, HSV (Herpes) are also "non binary" STD's that you could have had exposure to, yet you're unaware you have even after being tested.
