Ok, so it's been raining for about 3 weeks on and off. My shoes have been soaked three times and I usually use a blow dryer to get them dry but once I forgot. Anyway, now my Nikes smell like mildew and it's terrible!

Here were the solutions I tried:
1. Sprayed 3 times with antibacterial neutral scent spray.
2. One cycle in the washing machine.
3. Put bleech on a rag and wiped down the shoes.
4. Poured rubbing alcohol all over the shoes and cloth!

OMG, they still stink! I know I must have killed whatever fungus or bacteria was giving off the smell but I guess the faberic is just saturated. I can't think whatelse to do short of a smelly car pine tree like they have in the movies :/

Anyone have a solution?

Howbout wash them 2x in the washer with soap. Then to dry them do it right this time, find a front loading dryer and tie the shoes to teh door with rope and then leave the dryer on for 2 hrs, and you get some nice toasty clean shoes :)

When I washed them I put them in the regular dryer... should have been sufficient :/

Soak the soles and inner parts of the sneaks in bleach for a few hours. Then run them thru the washer on heavy in hot water.

The other way is to take the laces and soles out and put it all in the dish washer and run it with cascade. Dont laugh, it works.

i think you might be missing the reason for the stink...
try smelling the feet
dead feet make shoes stink

try to have 2-3 pair of foot wear, and swap around ti let inside dry,
this helps to cut down on the fungus/bacteria growing inside

odor eaters will help a little,

odor eater socks {work boot socks} too help a lot, i saw some at either Kmart or Walmart... hmm, i need new socks too!

The fabric smells like mildew. That is not a result of me having smelly feet.

thx for all of your useful tips guys/gals :)

Extra detergent, hot water, and use the largest water capacity setting. Do this twice and double rinse. Make sure you take the soles out of the shoe and undo the laces.

Dry in dryer with towels.

buy shoes from footlocker, put your old shoes in the box, and return them and keep the new ones

(credit goes to all the shady people that have suggested this in hd :))

Update I supposed :)

I took the laces and soles out. I then bleached the hell out of them. I washed them then rinsed them, then dried them manually w/ a hair dryer! They kinda smell like bleach now but IMO that is better than stinky mildew!!!
