I watched this a long time ago.. I thought it was pretty trippy. Especially the heart beat at the end of the album going when dorothy puts her head up to the tin mans chest..

Here is a list of a lot of the sync's

I'd like to know who in the hell would of ever figured this out??? why would anyone play the dark side of the moon album at the 3rd lion roar and figure out that it sync's with the wizard of oz.

How the hell could this have been a coincidence?

If you've ever edited a video and just laid down a music track, a lot of the time the music will naturally match up to a lot of things. It's just the way it goes.

But thats done with the purpose of lining things up, is it not?

Usually, yes, but I've done a lot of videos and when looking for music, I'll just lay down audio I think will be good. A lot of times, the audio will match up well to the point of not needing a lot of tweaking to make it work with the video.

this sync isn't just like... oh yeah the words kinda match the lips, or uh huh i kinda see the tune going along with the mood..

there are complete scenes, where say a lady walks in, and the music track changes. or here (maybe spoiler?) dorothy's running back home and a woman is screaming/singing on the track, as dorothy isn't able to get into the bunker she screams louder, then when dorothy gets hit on the head the woman stops screaming as dorothy starts to dream. then when the house goes up into the tornado the woman starts screaming again on the track. then the track ends, and right as dorothy gets out into the land of oz, a new track starts. (a few major syncs like this)

hehe seriously... I'm sort of surprised more people hadn't seen this before. I've done it numerous times... it never gets old. Under the influence or not--it's amazing.

Synching the two up the first time only increased my appreciation for both album and film. My favorite part is the whole span of "Great Gig in the Sky"--such chaotic visuals set to such peaceful music. It's surreal.

I know what you're talking about. I've seen it before. Like I've said before, music can just match up that way. I'm sure if you looked hard enough, you could find an album to match the first hour of Gone With The Wind, too. You can believe what you'd like, but if memory serves, there are plenty of places where the album and movie don't match at all.

I have been hearing this for years and have both the album (and CD) and the VHS tape. I have to check it out.

Unfortunately, verifying this would mean watching the Wizard of Oz AND listening to Dark Side of the Moon, both of which are permanently banished from my house.

I think this is almost certainly a total coincidence, much like the Bible Code and any number of other things that appear to reflect a deliberate plan, but which really just reflect random chance.

Oh yeah, and the only proper way to see this is on a TV/movie screen with the LP/CD... synching it up yourself. It's easy to do. You can find the Wizard of Oz DVD cheap on ebay. DSoTM vinyl is best because flipping the disc fits into the synchronicity too.

For convenience though, I use the CD. But actually, I use the CD in DTS!!!

Yep... there are die-hard AV nuts who have converted a lot of the old quadraphonic recordings (there were a bunch in the 70s, including other Pink Floyd albums) into DTS surround. All that's needed to play them is a DVD player (or CD player with digital out) and a receiver capable of decoding DTS signals. This presents a problem if all you have is a DVD player and need it for the movie--In my case I've got a CD changer as well so I put the CD there and the movie in my DVD player. Regardless of the movie synch, the Quad mix of this album is well worth having.

It sounds fantastic with four speakers. There are a few ping-pong effects (the cha-chings in "Money" for one), but mostly the instruments and the vocals are separated more front/back, creating a very cool spacial effect. This isn't some hack job, either... these are the original quadraphonic recordings made by PF and Alan Parsons (most are transfered from eight-track, but some are from dual LPs). Quadraphonic sound never took off because it used to be so complicated to do. For the SQLPs, you'd need two turntables and two amps and you'd have to synch them up right. DTS CDs make it so much easier.

I have the Wish You Were Here and Atom Heart Mother quad mixes too--they all sound great. I'd be happy to B&P them for anyone who wants them. They burn on regular CD-Rs, but are unplayable without a DTS decoder.

They actually showed it synched on Turner Classic Movies. I also could have sworn there was a special edition DVD of the movie with it as an alternate soundtrack.
