30% of the responders came out against it...... according to the association. It wasn't a vote, there was no election.

30% of the responders did not agree with it. It says nothing about being against it.

There is a whole middle ground of doesn't give a sap.

If I don't think you are doing a good job, it doesn't mean I think you are doing a bad job. It could be that you are doing an average job.

That's true, but it still means that less then 400 growers agreed with it. There are more then 21,000 Christmas tree growers in the US. I know it's a Democrat wet dream that less then 2% of the people should be able to tax and/or fee the other 98%, but it hardly seems right or fair.

This reminds of a scene in a simpsons episode when Mayor Quimby is confronted with a mob of angry citizens. They're all upset because their taxes went up when they voted for an initiative to bear-proof Springfield.

The angry mob is outside Quimby's office complaining about bears and taxes and he asks his assistant if the crowd is getting dumber or just louder.

Christmas tree growers to Obama: We would like to see a coordinated advertising campaign on our behalf because we're not interested in doing that stuff ourselves and we're tired of losing market share to China. We'll even pay for it without passing the vosts on to the customer, ok?

Obama: That sounds alright. What can go wrong?

Fox News: Obama hates Christmas, levies punitive tax on Christmas trees!!!

Just change it to "less then 2% of the Christmas tree growers to the USDA:......... you'd be accurate that way, but then what's accuracy to an idiot?

You are really reaching. The overwhelming majority didn't care. At least not enough to voice an opinion. The overwhelming majority of those who did choose to comment supported it.

You keep posting like they had no chance to air concerns, no input to the process and overwhelmingly are publicly against it.

Apathy, in this case, is acceptance.

Did they even have a chance at an opinion? The Association that put this forward represents less the 25% of the growers, my grower who belongs to the Association had never heard of the fee proposal. As soon as a light was shown on this fee/tax proposal the Administration scurried like cockroaches for cover. If had been legitimately done with full or large majority support they would have stood behind it.

Apathy, in this case, is acceptance. Opt-out, in this case, is acceptance. Did you learn your ethics from a credit card company?

2%, 70% yeah I can see how you could get confused. Seriously, the fact that your grower doesn't pay attention to what his association does on his behalf doesn't mean squat.

If you'd read rather then glanced at the PDF from The National Christmas Tree Association.
http://www.christmastree.org/11_PR7.pdf

Here's where it says:

"This program was requested by the industry in 2009 and has gone through two industrywide
comment periods during which 565 comments were submitted from interested parties.
More than 70% of the growers posting comments, and nearly 90% of the state and multi-state
associations that posted comments indicated that they were in favor of the program."

565 comments from interested parties, that's with 2 different comment periods.

of those 565 comments (not all from growers of course)
70% from growers were positive. That's not 70% of the growers, that's 70% of less then 565 comments. The National Christmas Tree Association has over 5,000 growers. In the United States there are more than 21,000 Christmas tree growers.

So the facts are that a very small percentage of growers approved of this fee on the much larger majority. It really shouldn't make any difference to the Democrats here since they really like that idea, but a lot of people think its pretty screwed up when it happens.

Christian Scientists? Is that even a religion? It is a pyramid scheme where you pay more and more to move up in the ranks so other people can pay you to take these for money religion classes. How does that qualify for a religion?

I don't know why my other post was removed but I glad they tried to push this threw . My family will NO longer celebrate this pagan holiday. It took my grandchildrens birth for my children to see what Xmas is all about . Satan claws is no longer welcome in our home or extended family. I waited alot of years for this . OH xmas tree oh xmas tree.
I don't care to make china wealthy because of xmas. As for US retailers they want to sell chinas goods screw them as well.

Tree farmers celebrate the halting of Obama's Christmas tree tax:

Well done fellow patriots!

Too bad she didn't say why if there are over 21,000 growers and who knows how many suppliers, wholesalers, importers and retailers that only 535 people responded to their comment request. Maybe she should have more of the growers involved and get more support within her industry before she tries it again next year.
