LMAO! Yeah, like Microsoft is really capable of doing that!

I was waiting for someone to pick up on that. MS makes everything a resource hog. I wonder how many patches your going to need to download for the anti-virus program having secruities holes?

DannyBoy obviously is biased in his opinion, who knows why...

Anyways, I'll keep buying & support Microsoft products. Symantec is piece of crap... Everyone I know complains about how it hogs resources... Windows 2000 + Windows XP Pro have been great for me... never had any viruses & problems (without AV software).

How do you know you don't have any viruses without any AV software, just curious of course...

When they felt that they can't win with better product and the market share in the segment helps in their grand business scheme.

...and let me guess, you're running NAV2004 on a P2 400 with 128meg ram?

close....P2-450Mhz with 256mb ram.

In case you didn't notice my sig...

3000MHz Rig

And yes NAV2004 is a resource hog. Have you ever tried to do anything HD intensive with it running? Performance is rediculous.

i meant in my case its slow since I have a P2-450 with 256mb ram...his guess wasn't far off from my rig's spec.

I am sure Norton / Mcafee are concerned, considering both their products suck horribly.

if other peoples products were better then their customers would still buy them no matter what MS bundled in their OS.

It depends on how much better. I believe MS would not put out a joke product which totally defeat the trust-computing crap that they are running now. So, most consumer would be just lived with the bundled one to save money.

Besides, most people are not technically-inclined and lazy. If there is something to use already, why bothers?

People will tend to stick with what is "good enough", if upgrading required actual effort.

Soo.... rather than updates to windows, we'll get emails saying how their virus protection will protect us from some certain vulnerability??

like I said in the thread yesterday, I'll buy the MS version and give it a shot. It can't be worse than McAfee.

agreed. If it's a good product the masses will move the the realm of MS

Because over 50% + 1 of 79,734 are all pirates?

To the OP - Microsoft has to charge for it or else get sued by god knows who for supposedly creating an unfair playing field and muscling someone out. They got sued by RealCrap b/c WMP finally became a decent media player and came with Windows. Nutscraper went down the hole b/c IE actually got decent enough and was packaged in with Windows.

It's coming in hardware sooner than you think.

Before you know it *all* computers will not be able to pass any kind of digital traffic unless authorised. Same goes for new software. They will kill piracy, viruses, and spam all at the same time. It's worse than I thought with all this palladium talk a few years ago.

Sucks for all the enthusiasts out there. Like everything else, a few misanthropic punks have to spoil it for everyone! :|

Cheers!

And when that happens, a group of hackers will figure a way to put [insert open-source operating system here] on it. Take the xbox for example MS designed it so that ONLY xbox games, but people have broken it and put linux on it. Heck, people have done that to the dreamcast, which wasn't even built to run games in the first place. :p
