OMG, Notepad has FEATURES!

I use metapad too. It's pretty much the same as notepad, but it actually has a lot of features. It supports files larger than 64K, it lets you convert from DOS to Unix line carriages, multiple undo, always on top, transparency, show hyperlinks, and lots of other useful stuff. I think the author even wrote the program in C using Win32 API to make sure that it's fast and small.

Same here, but I do have access to MS Notepad, too, just in case I want to use it. I have shortcuts to both in my Send To folder. I followed the author of Metapad's advice and renamed the orginal Notepad.exe, etc.
 
the main reason i started using a different editor is that i edit files that come from unix or linux boxes every now and then, and notepad doesn't handle the unix end-of-line sequence properly by default.
