maybe not. maybe they reschedule. why not give them a call? people make mistakes. I think the trick is to stay in communication with them. If you don't let them know what happened (e.g., you forgot) then they might assume you just don't care or have no intention of turning up.

In my experience with the judicial system... that didn't happen. They called his name, he didn't stand, he's guilty of all charges and possibly a bench warrant for his arrest.

regardless of what the law is in Eli's location, the best thing to do is get in touch with the court (or whoever) immediately.

Fsck. Fsck. FSCK!!

I got pulled over several months back, and am just now getting to the end of it.. or so I thought..

I thought that my court date was today, November 8th. But I just looked at my paper, and it was yesterday the 7th! I fscking missed it!

I made a deal with the officer, went and took a class that he participated in, he saw me there... Fsck! I can't believe this happened, I'm such a dumbass.

Is there any hope, or will they throw the book at me? What should I do? Ugh. :(

PSA Warning:

Since you missed the Court date an Arrest Warrant is automatically issued.

You are now considered a "fugitive" of the law.

You will now incur a boatload of extra expenses such as being arrested, read your rights, booked, finger printed, mug shot, bail, indictment and further Court appearanceas with associated lawyer and court costs.

Enjoy and thank you for your contribution to the corrupt system.

That link is probabaly not to your area, but I'm sure it's somewhat similar in other locations. Just go to court and be honest in your explanation. Make sure you get there first thing in the morning and you'll be fine.

I agree with the rest , in your absence , the court will automatically enter a guilty plea on your behalf. The real question is to see if they issued a bench warrant for failure to appear. Most of the time in traffic court they won't , but it is possible.
Others have said this , and it is in your best interests to get your butt down there this morning and go see the judge. Brother I've had my share of court troubles , don't mess around with it , just get down there quick and get it taken care of. You may have a ticket and court cost to pay now , and won't be able to get out of it. But you don't want to have to go through the trouble of being arrested on a bench warrant , and bailing out , and going BACK to court again. It's a big waste of money. HEAD THAT OFF AT THE PASS.

You will be issued a failure to appear which leads to an arrest warrant. I had it happen to me. I had to end up paying like 4 or 5 hundred bucks over a seat belt ticket.

Something like this happened to me before. They actually suspended my license. I didnt even know my license was suspended until I got pulled over on a Valentines Day with my now ex gf in the car. The cop said to get out of the vehicle and I sat in the back seat of his car for a few minutes while he explained the situation to me. Luckily, they didnt take me to jail. They just told me to let my now ex gf drive the car home, and I should get it taken care of as soon as possible.

If you show up later, generally you'll be forgiven for it. Mistakes happen and they understand that. And showing up later for it shows you have the balls to atleast do the right thing.

If the officer saw you in this class and he remebers you were there and during the course of the original infraction you were poilte. I see no problems if you call him or stop by by the police station and contact the court. Most police officers are not into being pricks and making peoples lives rotten. Just contact the appropriate people and make amends quickly. Good luck and let us know.

There's likely a bench warrant for your arrest.

Seriously though, I just called my brother, a cop, and he said you likely just got found guilty automatically. As for an arrest warrant that all depends on the judge and his mood, but odds are nothing like that happened.

My bro said call the clerk of court IMMEDIATELY and explain your situation. He said it will also go a long way to help if you tell them about and show the paperwork for that driving class you took.

Good luck dude.

And don't drop the soap!!!!

I had that happen once. I explained that I misread the date on the ticket and they let me reschedule.

edit: On the reschedule date I ended up getting the ticket tossed out. No extra costs or anything.

That's not all that happens. You probably also got charged with failure to appear.

Well if it makes you fell better

Yesterday I sent the interviewer a thank you letter. In the letter I was reminding the interviewer about my strong SQL skills. The only problem is that I noticed afterwards that I wrote SOL skills. DUH

Tell him you were doing your civic duty of standing in line and voting. Since this will be your last time of being eligible to vote, unless that liberal state has allowed felons to vote. :p

Go down to the courthouse and talk to the judge.

Ignoring the problem will only allow it to get worse.

Call the court clerk and ask what you should do. If you show soon you may be able to avoid being arrested. I had a friend in undergrad who forgot about a speeding ticket. They rounded him up the Saturday after his court date, booked him, etc. I don't remember if they just let him pay the fine and penalties after his arrest, or if he had to post bail and appear in court. Either way, it was a huge hassle.

Edit: This being said, the court deals with this on a regular basis. You aren't the first person to screw up. Call the court clerk.
