Dr suggested I take niacin when I'm having a nicotine fit because it's chemically similar to nicotine.

Well, for about 10 minutes, I forgot all about cigarettes.... BECAUSE I WAS IN AGONY!

My skin was burning from head to toe.
My stomach was turning over and over.
The itching was unbearable...

Wow. Now I need a cigarette! :|

And before anyone asks, yes I drank a buttload of water with the pill.

Those are common side effects when you take large doses of Niacin. How large a dose did you take?
To alleviate these problems try taking an asprin an hour before taking the Niacin, make sure you have food on your stomach, and avoid hot fluids. Also try working your way up from a small dosage to a larger one. Also, if you notice a discoloration in your pee, extreme stomach pain, and nausea, contact your doctor immediately as this may be a sign of liver damage. While rare, it can be caused by Niacin.

Ok, with a 300mg dose you can almost rule out any chance of liver damage, but side effects are still common. Try getting a time-release dosage, and try my previous suggestions of asprin and eating.

try niacinAMIDE

considered "identical" to niacin but withOUT the burning.

And if it must be niacin, try divided and smaller doses.

I have never heard of niacin as a quit smoking aid... I have heard about its system cleansing abilities though(as in for a drup test)...

300mg? Bah! I take 2000mg in one dose every day.

The flushing goes away in time, but I never had any itching/nausea. But that first time is a real surprise, ain't it! :)

It's to raise my HDL level. The best way to take it is right before you go to bed after eating a low-fat snack, but that really doesn't work for you, I guess.
