Were you installing sp2 by chance?

Can you reinstall windows?

Can you boot into safemode? If so, go to control panel, add/remove proggys and remove sp2.

LOL NO PROBLEM.....OUT OF THE PROBLEMS WHICH I HAVE ENCOUNTER, ID RATE THIS AS A MID-HIGH END PROBLEM........I MEAN, I COULDNT GET INTO ANYTHING ,,,NOTHING AT ALL

Yeah, i've had similar problems before. I always end up having to do some weird what you would call mid-high end trick to get things going again. i've seen the dos screen too many times in my days of Win XP.

okay, so I've had mucho trouble installing "critical updates." I'm on dial-up and high speed isn't really economically available in the area so don't suggest that. I'll get half way through installing some update then the download will stop for some reason. If I reboot and connect to the internet again sometimes it will finish the download, or some times it will botch up to the point where when the update is installed it doesn't go through correctly because of a corrupt download. Is this common even for those on broadband connections? Is there some other way I can get the updates besides downloading them, I've spent literally days trying to download a single 2 mb update.
