During inspections in IL they usually take off your gas cap and put it on some kinda of suction machine to see if you have a good seal on it. It's not good for the enivornment for gaseous gas to be leaking out.

That happened to me on my Sundance. Just get a new cap they only cost like $7.

Well he doesn't live in CA. He lives in NJ.

i know he is in nj just didn't know that any states due car inspection. I only thought they do it in europe guess i was wrong

woohoo got a quote from hparts.com

oem honda gas cap = 5 bucks 4.75 shipping.

local dealers charge 20 beans for it :(

No, the gas cap industry doesn't get much business and this was their solution for adding sales

NJ and PA both do it, other states do as well.
In PA, it's a payola scam - you take your car to a registered shop, and pay whatever they tell you and they put the sticker on.
In NJ, it's still a scam, but at least you don't have to pay for the inspection itself and you actually pass most of the time.

only the DMV inspection stations are free for inspection in NJ
if you go to a private one .. they charge you like 50-60 bucks. If you have something that wouldn't pass inspecition I guess you just pass him a BILL and they'll pass you

You realize that you have to take your car for a smog check every two years, and they'll fail you if your gas cap doesnt hold pressure.... in California, right?

You realize that you have to take your car for a smog check every two years, and they'll fail you if your gas cap doesnt hold pressure.... in California, right?

yes but i was talking in general terms. As i understand they check everything brakes, brake lights etc

and you can pick which one fits yours or even a find a exact match.

lol call it Finders keepers. You know whats funny I got a 745i and the damn cap has electronics on it.

BTW We traded a while back for something i cant remember but the system i got from U is still rockin.

I can get 20 beans pretty cheap. They have all kinds of them at the grocery store
