EDIT: actually, personally I don't like the sound signature of the E4Cs. The last time I tried them for rock, the mids were too forward and guitar just sounded flat-out BAD. I probably didn't insert them right, but whatever, I like my iM716 better anyway.

I actually listened to both at a store I was looking around while waiting for my delayed flight at Charlotte-Douglas International last week, the E4Cs and E500s are A LOT closer together than, the E2Cs and the E4Cs, or even the E3Cs and the E4Cs. I think I'm at the sweet spot for price/performance. Now, if these break and the warranty's out, well

hehe, I already nef around head-fi, but my thread asking what to do about getting these to fit like my E2Cs remains unanswered, I guess I'll just post the question here.


I used to wear the biggest foamies on the E2Cs, but getting the E4Cs to fit the same way is a beotch. Not sure exactly how to wear the flangey thingies, and the "soft flex" sleeves that came on it aren't exactly giving me the best seal.
AFAIK, the normal flex sleeves that come with all Shure phones are the same, right? So if I can't figure anything else out I'll just wear the large flex sleeves at the expense of (slight) discomfort.

I think the E2C tip shafts are not the same as the E4C tip shafts.

You could always try DIYing your own foamies. There's a good thread on Head-Fi made by jSatch about it, some pretty good info.

Hehe, if I was able to talk myself out of 2 driver IEMs, I should be able to with the 3 driver IEMs.

They're not, they're a lot fatter and shorter; I'm just trying to figure out which tip with the E4s will give me the closest experience to the large foam tips on the E2s, because IMO, those offered the best isolation and bass.

I loved the sound of my E4's but I ended up selling them because I couldn't get used to using IEM's. I'm back to the big headphones.

They aren't that expensive...only like $180. If high fidelity music is one of your top priorities, it's not hard to find that money. Just spend a little less on something else.

I'm a high schooler and I was able to buy them for myself easily by going out a little bit less and working a little bit harder.

I'm quite fond of the sound signature of Shure's phones, I tried the Ety's and didn't really like them.

If you didn't like the ER4P, try the Altec-Lansing iM716. THey're supposed to be a bassified ER4P (there's some evidence that shows they use the same driver, but I don't think it's been proven yet), and the details are still there. I :heart: them.

Not the details, but the pronounced mids - clear high end Shures tend to have. I don't think I tried the ER4P's out; after looking at pictures of them, they were definitely the ER6i's. If I keep going on an IEM buying frenzy, I'll really break the bank

In the manual it actually lists both. Says you can wrap around the ear and bring the cord down the front or the back, and then just wear them normally. Personally, I prefer to wear them around the ear; reduces microphonics, and usually keeps em deeper in your ears.

I got them with a $111 discount off MSRP from EarphoneSolutions.com (they don't advertise their price, you have to e-mail, it's explained at their site).

The E4C and E4C-n are actually both marked "E4C" on their boxes, the E4C is white, the E4C-n is black (yes, that Amazon picture is wrong). Two other Shure models usually exist, a G model, and one with no letter at all. The E4 is dark grey, and the E4G is also black, but comes in gamer style packaging. The headphones themselves are exactly the same though.

I ended up with the IM716 because they were crazy inexpensive on amazon for 65$. Now, the price is back up!
