regardless of whether you agree with the guy or not he has the freedom of speech to say what's on his mind. and for the record there's definitely some issues with the way this situation in New Orleans is being handled, it should'nt take this long to evacuate a city in our own borders

I love how Kanye West can write songs titled "Jesus Walks" but can't put aside his political agenda for a day to help raise money for those suffering.
Agree, this and at Live8 where he ranted about how crack was introduced into the black community to get rid of the Black Panthers, which his dad was a member of.

Considering that his political agenda (as you call it) has a direct bearing on the situation, imo I thought his comments were understandable.

BTW Condaleeza Rice (Secretary of State) was caught shopping for shoes in NYC during the first few days of this crisis. Some other shopper stopped and yelled at her stating something like "How dare you shop for shoes while thousands of people are homeless and dying!"

lol I love new yorkers

Sad that people don't even know what the Secretary of State is responsible for.

Haha, it was a benefit show. You're right that the man has freedom of speech but that was not the time or place to spread his ignorance. You can bet he won't be invited back for anything like this ever again.

And those people down in Louisiana knew exactly when Katrina would hit and how bad it would be. The travel channel was showing the expressways out of New Orleans two days before things got bad and there wasn't a single car on the road. You know why? Because none of those people have cars. They also couldn't afford food before Katrina hit so why is the President responsible for feeding them now? That city is a hardcore ghetto and we should probably think twice about rebuilding it.

Well, just as with the Dixie Chicks and every other artist/actor that uses their celebrity status to push a political message...

Say anything you want. But you better be ready to accept the fallout from your actions.

i'm just speaking the truth man. this country could care less about blacks and other minorities. if this were a situation where wealthy or middle class whites were trapped the response would have been lightning quick from the gov't.

Kayne needs to shut his mouth already, first religion now politics.. I thought he was a college dropout anyway. Not to defend Bush or anything being a Demo, but just stick to rapping and womanizing Mr. West, geez.

So college dropout should all be censored? Not given the right to speak? Tape their mouths up? Your rant makes you sound more stupid.

Yeah, nice job putting words in my mouth, guy. I don't care if he's a dropout and I'm not saying college dropouts are stupid and shouldn't be listened to. I'm just sick of HIM making like a priest/president thinking he knows and sees all. These popular artists/actors think because people look up to them that they can just say whatever the hell they want and get away with it , it's BS and people like him and Tom Cruise should just stick with what they do best.

It is Called Freedom of Speech check it out

It's called tact, look it up.

What was the whole..."blah blah blah permission to shoot us"? I couldn't make sense of a damn word he said.

It sounded like he was saying the army(or national gard, whoever was helping them) was given permission to shoot at black people. I'm surprised they didn't kick him off after that. 😕

considering the way bush reacted when a couple thousand rich white people died in 2001 (2 major protracted wars that are still in progress) compared to now, with a couple thousand poor black people (a few cases of bottled water and a big sleepover under in leaky-roofed geriatric football stadium with dead bodies), Kanye may be overgeneralizing but not too far off the mark.

i'm aware i'm generalizing, too. 😉

Yes, let's declare war on all hurricanes!

sadly society does care less about blacks than they do whites. humans have a tendency to empathize based on skin color, humans have difficulty emapthizing with those who look different from them.
