i dont even know or care what it means... 3dmark is crap.

I do see that its a 8600 though... that is bad... upgrade it.

The GF9 comes out soon... your card is ENOUGH to wait until then...

I saw some benches that showed the 8600GT outperforming the 7800GT (yes 78, not the same as your 79 I understand) in Crysis and CoD4, shaders are important these days. Do you (vaguely?) remember your 3DMark scores from your 7950? Seems you sold it, not like it was getting any more valuable. What resolution do you play at?
3DMark isnt the end all of end alls, but it's a good reference point. Playing a game and deciding what is acceptable and what is very subjective.

That 7950 was so much better then your 8600GTS.

That IS . . . a LOW 3DMark06. Both processor and VGA clock settings affect it.

It just seems way too low to me. I only have a single 8800 GTS 640MB card with my C2Q-Q6600, and I got 11,500 3DMarks.

If you want to over-clock the VGA, get both ATI-Tool and RivaTuner -- install both.

Give attention to detail, or you'll crash the system in the process, but ATITool will test both GPU and graphics memory clocks automatically at ascending settings. You're best to do a little research at some forums and get a handle on what the maximums are likely to be with your 8600 card, then fix ceilings in ATITool.

Once you have that range, you can choose settings within the range using RivaTuner. If you OC the card through ATITool, I suspect that it will lead to instability. And RivaTuner allows you to choose default settings that are recorded in the system registry and set at boot-up. This way, you don't have to flash the VGA BIOS with the chosen values.

I think that OC'ing my 8800 GTS from 850/792 to 875/900 bought me 1,000 3DMark points in 3DMark06. I could be wrong, but I think it was so.

I couldnt even begin to tell you what my previous scores were. and besides they wouldnt really matter because i had that card when i had my amd system. I play COD4 at 1440x900 and i get actually a decent framerate. i think like 50-70fps.

and ill try to overclock it now. no harm in squeezing some juice out of this thing i guess. ill post back with my max oc and my 'new' score....

 E8400 stock + 8600gts = FTFL!

I realize 4ghz might be pushing it with the TX2 but there IS a happy medium...say 3.6ghz?? :)

I don't get it. He can get his processor to nearly 800 Mhz above what I'll dare; he's upset that he can't OC his graphix card by a narrow increment on both core and memory, but his VGA memory outstrips my over-clock by 100 Mhz.

How does he get such a low 3DMar06?
