thats total bullshit. :|

Why are you complaining? That assessment is useless for anything other than taxes. Celebrate your reduced property taxes.

Mine dropped $16K from two years ago. Doesn't matter, we negotiated the price down last year when we bought it, so we're still (just barely) right-side-up on the mortgage. Regardless, comparable houses in my area are selling for just a bit more and I'm not looking to sell anyway. I don't mind taking the lower taxes, thank you very much.

Yep, that's pretty much what's happening here too. My value stayed pretty even but they are going back to 100% valuation being taxed so my taxes will skyrocket. I had to laugh at the assessor, he was all over TV trying to tell people that things were stable and people wouldn't be seeing much change this time around....except he forgot to mention the actual taxes will change a lot!

I just fought hard through having to get an appeal form at the tax office, getting rejected, and have to appeal that assessment to get $52k down. I am happy about it myself as it now reflects the current market AND a smaller tax bill (it increased $900 last year  ).

same here. house value dropped by 20K since last year. But I have to pay $30 more in taxes per quarter

Even if the overall value decreases they will surely increase the mill rates. They will always find a way to get "their" money. :disgust:

Can a county assessor's change the multiplier on their own, or does it require a public vote or approval by some other authority?

Oh you bet they do that shit. My favorite is when prices were rocketing up they had the gall to say that they "lowered taxes (0.5%)" and then when its reassessed you're of course paying way more then before. They screw you coming and going.
