OMG! I'm never shipping USPS again

Wow..went to USPS to ship a 3-4lb book. was just gonna throw it in a priority box so i didn't have to buy a box or envelope. The cost for priority was $13!! I was like uhh no. So I walk out and go to UPS and it was about $5. Hehe. I don't see how USPS thinks they're going to make money by charging rates that make them extremely uncompetitive with their competitors! They're just going to lose customers especially any businesses that still ship USPS. What are they thinking??
 
USPS does have services lower/slower than Priority you know...

Odds are the UPS shipment will be much slower than the USPS would have been.

yes, its true, usps is way too much now. i mailed a game theater xp retail and it cost $14.83 to mail it priority!! she said it was $13 for regular mail. wtf!!!!
 
Priority
If it is 3 pounds and local, it would be $4.75. If it was 4 pounds and was the farthest distance form you in the US, it would be $10.35. So the price HAS to be between those. And

Media Mail
The price would be between $2.26 and $2.68, which are the prices for 3 and 4 pounds, respectivly.

Per the Post Office near my work: "We treat Media Mail like junk mail. If the address is wrong or we have any problem delivering, we trash it. Plus it might take a month or longer to deliver."

Therefore, I only use 1st Class or Priority Mail. Their rates just went up you know.

UPS is too damn SLOW for me to use. Also, try FedEx Ground service. I have had decent luck with them.

 
When I buy used books off Amazon.com, the originating shipper usually uses USPS "media mail," which means it takes forever. 🙁

Not always - my last few 'media mail' purchases from amazon or half.com have gotten here extremely quick.
 
I was going to say, you should have shipped it media mail. Should have been just over a couple of bucks and would have been there quicker than UPS ground (for me anyway). I use it all the time when selling computer games (computer media qualifies for media mail).
 
USPS is not cheap, but sometimes it's convenient. Now that UPS has a shipping center at the local Office Depot, it's not a problem. Otherwise it was big $$$ to ship UPS via those pack & ripoff places. Might try airborne ground next time, I'm supposed to get some discounts via work on the Airborne priority stuff, not sure about the new ground service. The worst part about shipping is the wait. It always takes forever to get to a register.
 
well then USPS has way too many options lol priority, first, second, third, fourth fifth sixth, last class overnight 2 day 3 day BLAH BLAH BLAH media blah rofl. they need to get their acts together and streamline their operation. Either that or UPS or FedEx will become the M$ of package shipping.
 
I shipped a tiny item today via USPS priority that weighed 1.02 pounds and costed me $5.75! This was for two NICS I sold for $15 shipped! That's absolutely insane... It's not even worth it for me to sell inexpensive items... USPS SUCKS!
 
BTW i had sold one of the books on half.com. The buyer paid an extra few bucks to get USPS Priority Mail. In total half.com gave me $4.55 or something for shipping, and then i find out the shipping costs $13. Sorry half.com buyer, you're gettin it media mail!
 
Wow, I didn't realize postage rates increased that much. I guess it's the zoning that sucks because I usually send across country. Too bad it's the most convienient for me at the moment. Free supplies and a couple blocks walk.
