There was a case where Countrywide did the same thing, and they got their asses sued into oblivion. The award was like 4 million, although it later got appealed down to like 1.5 or something. I wish I could find the link for it.

I gotta admit, if I were that chick I'd find the scummiest lawyer there is and do everything possible to destroy the lives of the people who made the mistake. Making a mistake is one thing, offering 5 grand to rectify something like that shows a DEEP lack of character. I hope the condo owner ruins them.

Totally reasonable. How do you replace irreplaceable/sentimental stuff? That factors into judgment. Then you got to send a message not to do this type of shit and pocketbook is best way since we don't shoot people anymore.

That 5K counter offer joke would have me awarding whatever max.

She should get some money and they should change the law so you have to at least hold 'trashed out' possessions for some amount of time just in case there is a mistake like this.

If i was the repo man i would send the guys to the dump to try and find the baby photos and things. who cares about furniture that shit can be replaced (and will be once the legal battle is over) But she can never get the baby pictures back

question: she came home and found a note on her door saying her locks were changed by accident. so why didnt she go down to lowes and get new locks or call out a locksmith. sorry but no way in hell would have let those changed locks stay there.

if that happened to us my wife would go ape shit crazy for losing the baby pictures. we do have a few antiques from our familes dating back to the early 1800s and to lose those would make me go ape shit crazy.

You would huh? Not me. I have grandfathers war metals, golf clubs from the 1930s, antique guns, pictures of family stretching back 100 yrs, MX racing trophies and so on - irreplaceable. No amount of money would be enough

Looks like there's other cases of RE agents going into people's houses and rekeying them.

If she has renters/home owners insurance, she could submit a claim. I'm thinking that an army of attorneys could make her things re-appear quicker than just asking nicely.

You know, the bank could have sold that unit for $50,000 and saved a bundle in losses.

Who the hell would do that? Why should her insurance have to pay for it? Plus her insurance rated would go up or it would be canceled. She should sue them for all their worth for this. That is a lot of irreplaceable items.

I would love to see the followup for this article, if this goes to court, she will get awarded more than she is asking.

Edit: Oh and to me those photos look like their AFTER a ton of shit got removed. Cable outlets disconnected from the walls and everything? Sorry that RE company is full of shit.
