OMG, I saw the biggest rat!

I live about a block from the back bay and today the water from the back bay overflowed due to hurricane Wilma. Well I got home at about 11:30pm and I was walking to my apartment. I noticed a animal scurring under a truck. I thought it was a cat but when I got a closer look this suker was white, had a skinny tail and was HUGE! I'm talking the size of a grown cat!

I just walked on the other side of the street but this thing was walking across the street towards ME!! I ran back over and quickly walked to my apartment!

Freaked me out.

Not a Rat, its a Opossum.
Nasty little critters.
 
Possums are nasty little creatures. I usually live and let live type thing, but one time we had one in the back yard that wouldn't go away and we were worried about it giving the dog something so we had to kill it. I can telll you they are reslient little guys even after multiple stern blows to the head with a metal pipe.
 
It was probably an opossum. They are about cat sized or even larger with long hairless tails and rat like features. I'd bet good money that's what you saw and not a rat.

A rat like that has been hanging around the basement of our building. NYC, where we have like 12 rats per resident.:Q
 
It could've been a male rat if you were exaggerating a bit. Male rats can weigh up to 2 lbs and get very large.
 
'possums are the nastiest scariest lookign creatures especially when you walk out to throw out the trash at night and have never seen one before...scared the beejeebus out of me!!

and didnt seem afraid of me either didnt run and hide like any other normal creature would at the sign of a human being
