OMG. I love the HP Blackbird 02 case

So I am one of those weirdos who collects computer cases like women go through shoes. I can't tell you how many cases I've gone through in my lifetime. Well, I think I have finally settled on a case which I do not plan on replacing...at least for a long time. It is the HP Blackbird 02 case. Pictures do not do it justice. Every piece feels like only the best components were used. I just received it yesterday but since I also ordered a new motherboard, I can't put my computer inside of this case quite yet (so sorry, no pics as of now). I have to admit, if it hadnt been for the price, I don't know if I would have bought it (simply because I can't see myself spending more than $300 for a case). I paid $200 for the case new from VoodooPC's Ebay store (plus $100 shipping). If you get a chance to find a similar deal for this case, go for it. You won't be disappointed (unless you like to attend lan parties in which case, you better work out cause this is one heavy case). You can check out some pics from the URL below:

for 300 dollars including a shipping. :X

I think a TJ-07 would of been a nicer choice. :X

I guess its in the eye of the person.

Its a nice case, but it seems a bit too normal for it to cost 300 dollars. :X

The Silverstone TJ-07 is ok. It's for the most part your standard enthusiast case. Here are some things I like about the HP Blackbird in particular:

1) Built in slot load DVD drive. I've missed this so much. I even kept my old Pioneer DVD-106S drive just because you can't really buy 5 1/4" slot load DVD drives.

2) Doesn't look like your standard PC case. Dare i say looks better than the Mac Pro case?

3) Excellent cable management

4) Removable trays for swapping SATA hard drives (for wedding photography, this really comes in handy)

5) It is lifted off of the floor but does not use wheels (provides better ventelation and looks good).

Once I put it together, I am sure I will find more reasons to like it.

gah i miss those DVD-Roms.

yes i wish we saw more slot loading instead of tray.

You'd think we'd see more of them because they used them on cars for how many years successfully, yet the only 1 company that had them for us computer people, they discontinued.

Ouch! Talk about padded shipping! Still, probably a good price for such a case. I can't imagine them making much money (if at all) selling at that price due to the low volumes they were produced in.

My last 5¼" slot load drive was a Pioneer SCSI DVD-ROM. It died after a few years of service. 🙁

You can still buy slot load computer drives, but they are for notebooks. You can use them in desktop cases by buying adapters for 5¼" bays, plus adapters for the EIDE/SATA which are different than desktop variants. However, I've found them to be pretty slow (all notebook optical drives) compared to the typical $25 drive from Newegg.

Right. However, many people have the typical Silverstone or Lian Li cases. How many Blackbirds do you see besides in pictures? I personally wouldn't get one, but I can see the allure in having a case that none of your friends have ever seen in person. Go to a LAN party and everyone has Silverstones, Antec P180/900, Lian Li. Nobody has a Blackbird.

Hmmm, maybe I should get a BFG phobos to be unique too? 😕

Gorgeous case, I'll admit that in a moment. Unfortunately, I'm still looking for that "perfect" watercooling adaptable case.....I don't like Mountain Mods cases, just too Tinker Toy effect with all the modular pieces you have to assemble/buy to get a complete case.

Right now, have yet to see another case that is, without extensive modding, more watercooling adaptable than the Silverstone TJ07. Wish there was another, but whatcha gonna do?

I had a pioneer slot load dvd-rom. Only thing I didn't like was it was a little louder since there was no tray to seal the noise. Worked great for years but finally kicked the bucket and couldn't read properly anymore 🙁
