I made a lot of DL coasters (never one successful burn) with my old BenQ DW1620, & was having issues with regular 4.38 GB burns as well, so i utilized the exchange warranty on my drive & got the BenQ DW1620 Pro.

I just made my first DVD+DL burn with no troubles, w00t!

Nice, those hold 8.5gb right? I'm still waiting for 'em to come down in price a bit, I'm going to need 50 or so to transfer my collection of CD backups to DL DVDs :(

We never have any media free after rebates here in Canada (that i've seen anyway).

I did get a 100 pk. 8x BenQ (manufactured by Sony) DVD-Rs for $12 Cdn. Boxing week though.
Once & a while, staff pricing = teh r0x0rs.

How much were the DVD DLs? I got a 50 pack of DVD+Rs for $3 and I already had about 25 or so that I haven't used yet. Don't plan on buying a new dvd burner any time soon.

It was like $13 Cdn for a 3-pk.

Still way too expensive IMO, but i have a few things i really wanted DL for.

Hopefully you burned your DL disc with the latest version of Nero. Nero now supports Layer-Jump Recording. Normally when you burn a DL disc, you first write to one layer then to the next once, but only after the first layer has been completely written to. The problem here is, when watching a movie burned on a DL disc, you'll get a slight pause when the DVD player reads from one layer then has to jump to the next. With LJR, your writer will write back and forth from one layer to the other. This should take care of the problem with movie pausing on DL discs, and help make DL even more compatible with DVD players.
