OMG I almost kicked my computer to death :Q

Man my computer is such a wuss. Can't even take being kicked a few times. I was listening to some mp3's. I turned on my chair and accidentally kicked my computer. The mp3 acted like when CD skips and loops over same spot and the whole computer froze. I rebooted and kicked the computer again to see if I could reproduce the problem. The computer not only locked, but refused to post this time.

I reseated everything and still no sky. So I removed the mobo from the case and reinstalled every hardware and it works again...

What the f_ck just happened???

The system is a full tower and its cover is currently somewhere in my basement.

A pic I took earlier for the "inside your computer" thread

That's a first generation Intel Pentootium Three 600MHz on Abit BE6 and on lower right is two sticks of PC100.

<< you might have shorted something out when you kicked it. >>

I just kicked it pretty hard three times after the rebuild and it doesn't seem to do it anymore *shrugs*..

what a POS... I'll probably have to whack it with a hammer to test it like a man. I'll do that when my main rig is fixed..

It's working all good now. Took me a mere 15min to fix it. I don't understand why it happened in the first place and this is why I'm pissed.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an Uberneuman update alert 😛

So would this be considered good troubleshooting, or contributing to the problem?

Good troubleshooting, because it could have been a coincidence too.

lol, yes, jerboy, test it like a real man. his computer will feel all better with a few dents and some vent holes here and there. have fun

Along with a few bad sectors on the hard drive from the head hitting the platter.

And the more you kick and abuse it, the more of these odd little events will develop, until the whole HDD is trashed. Unless you are running 2.5" laptop hdds in an adapter of some sort.

Ever consider that something is loose? 😉

That seems most likely to me...check RAM, and your cards...possibly the MB power conecter, or the IDE cables...your computer could be comiting suicide in order to attempt to save your hardware.

I checked all the cables and inserted components. That didn't help, but removing the mobo from the case and reinstalling it did.

I barely bumped it with my foot when it froze the first time. I didn't kick it much harder when I kicked it to see if test was reproduceable either.

Anyways, after doing the rebuilt it doesn't freeze anymore. I gave it a few kicks and even threw a basketball at it rather hard and no freeze 😀

Where? The PC, or...?

LOL!

I'd have to go with "or..." on that one for sure 😉

Seriously though Jerboy, you're gonna f*ck up your hard drive if you keep beating it like that.

i killed my hard drive one time when i accidentally rapped my computer. not a good thing to keep kicking it IMHO.

Oh, no. Please don't do that. You can just give it to me. I'll treat it like a woman! 😉
