However, I am not sure if I will like the widescreen of the 2005 and might want to just stick with the 4:3 ratio of the 2001. However, the 2001 is almost a 2 year old LCD. Is it still the best?

I'm in the same boat. 1680x1050 is a stupid resolution if you ask me. I love the monitor but if I can't get native 1680x1050 support in BF2 I'm going to end using it at 1280x960 and I can do that on my 17".

What do you guys think about the Sony LCD's that have 8ms response times?

Well, I got the 2005FPW yesterday and tested it out last night. I am pretty happy with it. However, I think I will be sending it back to Dell to get it replaced because there is noticable backlight bleeding like many here have noticed. You can only notice the bleeding when the background is black and on dark games like Doom3. The Windows desktop and games like UT2004 and HL2 it looks fine. But, since I figure I am paying $500 for a monitor, I want it right. So I will probably get it replaced. It is the A01 revision.

Sorry to hear you got hit with the backlight issues too. A LOT of people are reporting this problem both here and over at hardforums. I think there's an A02 revision floating around too. Maybe next time you'll get lucky and get one of those.

Thanks. I am giong to call Dell tonight. Do they ship first for replacements? Or am I going to have to go without a monitor for a several days?

Are you sure they'll accept it for blacklight bleed? I was under the impression that manufacturers didn't consider this a defect, but rather a normal part of LCD's.

Anyways, I returned a CRT to dell upon its arrival about 4 years ago. It was very easy. They sent you a new monitor, you swap your dud one into the box, slap a pre-paid sticker on it, and call (airborne express at the time) DHL.

Best of luck.
