/slaps self

It doesnt make sense, your going to need a current video card to play it, and PC gamers with that kind of hardware seemed to be threatened by Halo or hate Microsoft so how much converts could they really get?

it seems to be pretty convenient that MS releases something they claim needs DX10 when it clearly runs on DX8/9 technology, and vista supports DX10.

i'll pick it up when it hits rock bottom price, cause i've already beaten it. what kills me most are the weapon sounds.. p!ss poor, there's hardly any excitement to unloading with ANY gun. 10000 rounds from dual SMG's sounds like nothing is happening. between all of the "newer" games i've played, HL2 definitely takes the cake for sounds (though their explosions are disappointing - *pop* instead of *BOOM*)

Q: Why are you releasing Halo 2 for Windows Vista only?
A: As Bungie Studios and Microsoft are dedicated to delivering a top quality translation of Halo 2 for the PC, their efforts require the use of the best available technological platform for Windows games. Windows Vista will help bring clarity to our customers and help them get more out of their personal computing experience, allowing them to focus on what matters most to them.

Q: Why is Halo 2 for Windows Vista not backwards compatible?
A: To deliver an optimal gameplay experience, Windows Vista will provide a great platform on which to bring to Halo 2. Microsoft and Bungie Studios will provide additional information at a later date.

Q: Is the release of Halo 2 for Windows Vista just a way to force consumers to purchase the new operating system?
A: Absolutely not. Bungie Studios and Microsoft's steadfast commitment to quality determined that the Windows Vista platform would provide the best possible version of Halo 2 for the Windows PC. We will provide you with more details in the future.

Bungie makes me laugh sometimes, first with Halo 2 xbx and now this.

Most people here don't have a very high opinion of Halo, but remember that Halo PC sold pretty well despite being a port coming out years after initial release.

It's not that the PC port was so buggy that made it sucked, but the fact that it's prequel (Marathon) was more advanced than it, despite being released seven years earlier.

It actually started out as a Mac game 🙂

Yeah, and at the time MS bought Bungie, Bungie said the purchase would not affect which platforms they released on. Uh huh, right...

<--- Doesn't care too much about Halo 1/2 at this point. Only wishes that Halo PC had come with a co-op mode.

It's gonna happen.

The gaming community will get so pissed off at microsoft that you just know it's going to happen.

But I have to ask, is it possible? I gather an exe on both the windows platforms will be similar right? How could microsoft regulate it anyway??

it going to be funny, some kid or their parents doesnt have much knowledge about games and pc requirements. They go out and buy halo 2. When they get home to install the game, it wont work because they have windows xp instead of windows vista. The parent/kid going to be pissed, they cant play the game, cant return it since it been open, and they have to dish out another $100-$300 to play a game that cost $40-$60

Meh, Halo 2 sucked worse than Halo 1. Why would we want fodder like that on the PC?
Agreed, Halo 2 is a game that you never get to play. You just sit and watch the animated movies.
