People need to realize a few facts about Notre Dame:
1) They were good once
2) They're not a powerhouse anymore
3) The college football world no longer revolves around what happens in South Bend
The amount of pampering and exposure that Notre Dame gets in the media is sickening. No other team would shoot up NINE spots in the polls after a MARGINAL victory (at best!) last week (25-23 vs. Michigan). Notre Dame needs to be FORCED to join a conference. Their Independent status was fine back in the day when they were the premiere college football program, but that is not the case anymore. The upside for Notre Dame is tremendous - an exclusive television contract with NBC, no revenue sharing since they are not in a conference, and automatic contention for an at large BCS bowl bid, provided they go at least 9-2. In fact they are able to STEAL bowl bids from other legitimate conference teams BECAUSE they are Notre Dame and the media is in such awe!
Which team is a close second to Notre Dame in terms of media overexposure?
That's right kids ... Penn State.
The road to the Fiesta Bowl doesn't go through South Bend. The road to the Fiesta Bowl doesn't go through State College.
So exactly where does the road to the Fiesta bowl go?
Through Miami, on December 7th when Virginia Tech comes to visit. And VT will follow that road all the way to Tempe.
