I can't say enough about this mod. The realism is amazing, the smacktards are all but missing from the servers, and the graphics, gameplay and sound was much improved. I've only played it about 1.5 hours so far (after years of BF) and it got me all giddy again. On wake an enemy plane was flying over me and firing bullets - the cases were falling on my head! The vehicles are more realistic, classes are more restricted (in a good way - more realistic), and did I mention there are very few smacktards?? ;-)

The only problem - the download is three files, one 699 megs, one about 450 megs and one about 45 megs - but it's WELL worth it.

Don't worry about whether there are enough servers....there are a few (enough to choose between quite a few at midnight PST) and there will only be more to come.

Enjoy!

P.S. For those that never bought BF1942 and went straight to BF Vietnam - this makes getting 42' well worth it!

Based on my 1.5 hours of experience (and no flying - but I'm a pilot at heart) I'd have to say it's a bit slower than DC and along the lines of vanilla BF. The real difference is in the realism, graphics, etc....

Sure, it's nice to have mines, expacks, pistol, gun & wrench all together, but truth of the matter is IRL it would be tough to carry all those. So for instance, they've scalled back the engineer where you can either have the mines or the expack, but not both.

For plane-wh@res like me the parachutes are gone...I guess some maps (from what I read) have a pilot class w/ a parachute, but most characters won't have a chute - if you crash, you die. Little things like that make it more realistic and less run and gun.

Again, this is based on just 1.5 hours of playing - but it was great. Well worth the price of admission too ;-) $0.00

Got it in the first few months it was released. At my peak I'd play it 3 hours per day on work-nights, MUCH more on weekends. GF wasn't too happy about it, but I'd be a gold/silver star guy on 90% of my maps. Have been trying to kick the habit (hadn't played for months), but this MOD drew me back in and now I'm toast for months to come. Fiance is planning our wedding, and this will be a necessary release between work and that ;-)

OOps- didn't see the whole message. Is that it? Only since October 2002? Darn - seems like it's been much longer than that (but that's what hours per day of gameplay will do I guess?).

LOL, I agree nice GIF... but it's always hard to find that "9" in the heat of battle! What do you guys change it to?

btw, I too was into FH for a while... and I loved it while playing. I could only imagine what being on a squad would be like, with full voice chat via TS, RW etc. I hated being a lone wolf... :(

I'm waiting til 0.62 comes out before I try it out again...
