OMG Five Guys Burgers coming to Canada

Why do they do that? I can understand Amex and Discover, but Visa? I could only use my Visa at the Olympic venues because of their sponsorship of the Olympics, so I know most of you guys up there have a Visa card.

Probably MC made them on offer they couldn't refuse, but said offer only came with the promise they wouldn't take Visa? Not sure why. Doesn't make much sense to me either. Most of the big chains take MC, Visa and sometimes Amex too.

Tim Hortons is the dominant fast food restaurant in Canada. They're EVERYWHERE! They mostly serve sandwiches, soup, coffee, doughnuts, and baked goods. It consistent outperforms McD's sales. Tim's is like a religion here. I'm not a fan though. Wendy's are fairly common since they used to own Tims. You'd often see both paired in the same building.

I hate Tims so god damn much. They consistently fuck up my coffee. As a person who makes his own coffee on a daily basis, I wasn't aware that coffee was so difficult to make for some people.
Their baked products are pretty good. Sandwiches are absolutely horrible. The soup is generally ok but not salty enough. The chili at Wendys is 10x better.

I've basically given up on Tims. If it's 3am and I want a coffee, I go to a 7-11 and make it myself. If it's regular day hours, McDonalds coffee is the best, and the lids aren't pieces of shit that break apart when trying to open them! McDonalds uses high quality plastic, Tim's uses low quality plastic.

Timmy's takes MC but not VISA..
Tim Hortons sucks balls. I always end up breaking a $20 to buy $5 worth of stuff there. McDonalds and Wendys are awesome because they accept my Visa without even taking a signature. A&W accepts Visa but they ask for a signature. Do they have a hardcore problem with people claiming fraud or something?

I drink my coffee black and while I'm not really that picky about coffee, I definitely have favorites. For fast food coffee, I really like McDonald's. It doesn't have the burnt or bitter flavor than a lot of other places have.

LOL at people saying Five Guys is better than In-N-Out, cute...

Well I'll know soon enough. I've had In-N-Out a few times and I liked it (I still like Taylor's Refresher more), so on Saturday I will have my first Five Guys experience to compare!

So are there any secret ordering tricks at Five Guys like at In-N-Out? :hmm:

A regular hamburger or cheeseburger is two patties, keep that in mind. If you want a single patty you have to order a little burger. Other than that, not really. All toppings are included in the price.

Cool, thanks, I had no idea.

What about fries? Regular or Cajun? :hmm:

I like the cajun fries myself but both are excellent. Usually they just DUMP fries in your bag regardless of what size order you get or how many orders you get. I always get a single, small order and end up with a bag full of fries.

Also, they do all their cooking in peanut oil, that's an issue for some folks, fyi.

Neither of us is allergic to anything, so we will be ok. I can't really eat that much so we will probably just share the fries. Looking at pics online you sure seem to end up with a tonne of grub! 😱

Thanks for the tips!

Aye, will do, that's insane. I don't even really like fries to begin with, so I'm sure I'll only eat a few just to try them.

For those in the area its on the south side of Park Royal near the White Spot.

Everything is made to order.

Overall........ a good experience......... good burger......... did not like the bun........ got soggy depending on the fixings you asked for.

The fries were very good....... we had cajun fries. Just enough spice and I would say a regular order was 2X wendy's biggie fries (as opposed to 3X in the US).

A bit more pricey then the US store I went to last Oct........ not something I would go to West Van for specifically ........... but if I am in the area ......... I would go.

Cheers,
Aquaman

A single fry is enough for 2 with leftovers.

Their fries are a lot like "carnival fries" 🙂

Once I've actually had In-n-Out I'll be able to compare. BUT 5 guys sets the bar very high up there. Maybe 10 years ago I would have considered Steak n Shake to be the best in burger-dom, but since they've had a seemingly massive expansion they've filled stores with horrifying customer service nightmares and terribly bad food.

If you want to try the cajun fries without actually getting cajun fries, you can just ask for cajun seasoning, which is the same thing they put on the fries to make them cajun fries 😛. Just dump the seasoning from the small container into your bag and shake up the shit with the fries.

The one thing I like about Five Guys is that it costs just as much as most of the other places around here, but I actually feel full after eating it.

EDIT:

Also they deliver your order in brown lunch bags and you will see it all nice and greasy... which is a good thing 😉. A nice tip for the lack of a tray... just rip the bag open down a seam and then at the bottom and pull it off to the side. It will open up the entire bag and give you a little bit of extra area.

I finally got the chance to eat at Five Guys on vacation last year.
Definitely a good burger, but I'm not sure its much to write home about.

Of course if there was one here locally, I'm I would eat one every so often.
