RDU, F18 requested an emergency landing, but could not make it to the landing strip. It crashed just short, but the pilot ejected before hand. So far no injuries or fatalities are being reported. RDU is closed down while they investigate.

It is amazing that a 26 YO technology is still kicking ass...

Its scary what kind of technology that the army has right now..

Why cant they use the cruise missile technology to fly airplanes without pilots? so there wont be any hijacking possible

They have been updated.
For example, Canada bought some aircraft which now can't fly with the US and UK in NATO missions because their joint targeting computers haven't been updated.

Also, cruise missiles don't "land" exactly.

A lot of the electronics and stuff in those planes has been upgraded sicne the early 80s.

Yeah, they've upgraded the electronics, engines, aerodynomics...there's even a Super Hornet out now that really kicks a$$. Like any plane though, accidents will eventually happen. Fortunately it looks like no one was hurt.
