OMG! Everyone that uses WinXP read this! MSN Messenger can be cleanly uninstalled!

I just found this out, it's the "official" uninstaller for MSN Messenger. It's that damn program that opens everytime you use outlook express, and it's installed by default with XP. Until just now I hadn't been able to uninstall it without hacks and other things. Here's what you do:

start -> run
Then copy and paste this entire line into the box:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Thats it! It tells you to exit messenger and anything that is using it, then you hit continue and it's gone! w00t!!!

To test it: open up outlook express. Notice there's no more messenger in the taskbar. 😀

EDIT: OE seems to load faster than it did before, I guess because it has one less program to load up 😀

<< got it from TweakXP.com ? nice site isn't it. ;D >>

Hehe, if TweakXP got it, then it's been recently. Last time I was there they had a bunch of registry hacks to do it, but it wasn't clean. I heard it from a person on Slashdot. TweakXP is a sweet site though, lots of good stuff there

<< Any way to keep MS Messanger but separate it from OE? >>

I'm sure there's gotta be a way. You just don't want it to load when OE starts?

<< btw, I lied... you won't be getting $50 from me >>

too late, you clicked, thats a legal contract. I expect to see that in there within the hour 😉

Yep, that's about it. Why load programs I don't want or need at the time?

you can just tell it not to open when xp starts, and uncheck a box in outlook for messageing and it works just as well.

I'm so embarased, but I actually LIKE MSN Messenger. It comes preinstalled so I don't have to talk mom, the wife, and the relatives through installing another app. I guess it's just the convienience of having it built in. It's really cool when you use it with an Exchange server. We use it at work all the time 🙂

hmm, this sounds good. I just renamed the directory of the messanger and that made it never load up, but this will kill it completely. nice job

Keep it running all the time like me 🙂

Well I searched before I posted and I couldn't find that it was a repost. My fault 😱

Either way, I'm bumping this one more time before I leave this thread just in case someone missed it. Just do this! MSN is crap and noone needs it on their system (aside from the people that said they liked it) 😉
