Just reviewed my credit report from Transunion and saw at least 20+ errors on it. WTF!!!! How the hell did they manage to put so much mistakes on my credit report? :Q I saw a bunch of accounts not belonging to me plus misinformation all over the place. :| These idiiots better have a good reasoning behind this crap. Anyone have advice for me? Should I dispute all of them at once? or item by item?

---Edit--------------------------------------

Gap Card also screwed me hard 🙁 reported 2ea 30 days late, 2ea 60 days late for a $44 purchase 🙁

2 years ago, I moved over to California. I had changed my address on the back of the payment slip but some how it was never changed in their system. Mail was sent to my old address but was never forwarded to my new address. Crap!!! Tried to explain my situation to the GAP CRS and they don't give a Sh|t so I cancelled both GAP Card and Banana Republic Cards. :| now its coming back to haunt me.....

i just order my credit report from freecreditreport.com had to call to do verification of the info

Read the directions on the website. That is, assuming that you're literate.

thanks lol forgot to read faq

SCSIfreekI'm very sorry to hear that. A couple of glitches I'd chalk up to an error but accounts that don't belong to you (I will assume they are not up to date - which could be a SSN crossover with another legitimate person, but rather they are out of date with missed payments, etc.) are likely results of somebody who stole your identity.

I became nearly a victim of it myself earlier this year - somebody tried to open two credit cards in my name. They screwed up and didn't manage to pull it off. I found out a month later. I spent time on the phone with each company, and disputed all of this through each bureau (you do NOT have to pay to dispute in case you were wondering).

Once you find out that this was fraud (assuming it was) you'll likely call your police department to open up a police record for the sake of having it on file. You can also call the FDC I think it is.

Finally you will need to call equifax (you can call all three but I know equifax sends this info to the other two) and request a fraud alert put on your file.

It's a horrendous pain in the ass. More so if you have accounts open because companies are less likely to take your word on it being fraud. This is surprisingly common though.

I now have a permanent monitoring setup through trans union (doing all three is too pricey). Additionally I sent in info recently to equifax (they will send to other two as I mentioned; experian and trans union) so that they can put me on a 7 year fraud alert. WHen somebody checks my credit now they see "potential victim of fraud alert. Please call [my home phone]". Then I can confirm that yes I am applying for credit. If a lender grants it without calling that number that's their own damn fault.

Be sure to check Equifax and Experion as well. If one is AFU, the rest are bound to be, as well.

I check mine about once a year, and always find discrepancies.

all at once or it will take years to sort out.

File the disputes now.

yep, because it will take a long time for them to clear it.

Has to be taken care of within 30 days by the credit bureau. I had a couple mistakes on my Transunion report and disputed. They were cleared up in less than 30.

Had a similar experience ... when I was taking out a new car loan, they told me I had bad credit. After receiving my credit report, there were 2 credit card that someone had opened under my name, balance was $5k each. I cannot tell you how many phone calls and how many hrs. I've been placed on hold to get it cleared. It's almost been 4yrs. since I've found out and I'm still in the process the last one. It's a major pain in the @ss.

Order your credit report regularly, this way you can catch any fradulent activity immediately, or else there is no way of knowing that someone has a cc under you name.

You simply have to in this day and age. My SSN was under two years old and I don't throw it around and still I had this happen to me. Anybody here who doesn't know what's i their report could have a bad account. The ONLY way to know is to check your accounts frequently. I have a fraud alert (you can put one on even if your credit has been untouched), and the trans union monitoring. Although somebody could go through equifax to get my credit score if they open an account it's LIKELY to also show up on trans union, so that's worth some piece of mind. I pay $11/quarter and a trans union credit report free each quarter with it.

If you don't mind paying a lawyer's costs 😉 I suppose some are well practiced in this though and can probably do it quickly. I know I spent probably 4 hours on the phone at least with my minor issues. Multiple fraud accounts could take dozens of hours.

easier maybe but you will spend a fortune for time consuming stuff like that.

Skoorb,

What did you do to put your credit report on fraud alert?

Call one of the equifax numbers (tricky to find sometimes - PM me later if you need it and I'll get when I'm home) and you can call in on phone for a 90 day or 6 month one. For a long term 7 year you need to send in the request along with phone bill and photocopy of SSN - and license wouldn't hurt either. If you're feeling lucky like I was you can send in the latter without certified mail. I hope it wasn't intercepted (did it about 2 weeks back but no reply yet!).

Recently, my loan officer pulled all three report for loan processing and that is how I found out. Equifax and Experian showed up normal with some errors but was nothing compared to transunion's credit report. just a small update, I have disputed close to 25 items on my transunion report :Q. I'll have to send certify mails to the other two to have them correct everything. Man it is a pain in the a$$ to fix all mistakes not to mention time consuming. But you gotta do whats best for you. advice for everyone, If you are planning on purchasing a home in the near future, do keep an eye on your credit.

that is true but if it takes 2 years for me to get the error off my credit report and it will take my lawyer 2 month then i think the money would be well speend
