Dunno about easier...but cheaper yes :) lots will have to happen before easy HD ripping (good software/driver support first)

i'm hoping mythtv gets a driver for this bad boy...that will be brutal to my HD capacities!

urgh....I hope this turns out to be successful. It has so much potential and it would be painful to see it fail:(

Not really sure I see the purpose in this.

1) Anything that could be captured (ie no HDCP) could already be obtained via TS. Even if there is HDCP support and cracks allowing you to record protected broadcasts you're still capturing something that has been compressed. There is absolutely no point in capturing the decoded output from a compressed source.

2) The "raw superior quality video" would only be for live capture, since those cams store their data in HDV. So in addition to your bulky consumer HD camera you'd also have to carry around your PC.

For those who have the camera and don't mind being tethered to their PC I suppose this could be handy.

Oh and another thing, from the tech specs:

HDMI Video Sampling 4:2:2
HDMI Color Precision 4:2:2

Lame.

DVI----> HDMI cable?

Yes, but I wanted an all in one solution. HDMI provides video AND sound. Doing DVI>HDMI obviously only provides video.

Good luck compressing that on the fly...

I wish they'd just make QAM cards work with *insert software suite here* and make some freakin WDM drivers for them.
