I really wish I had time/ability to do something like that. My Exploder has a big useless cubbyhole under the CD player that would be perfect for a touchscreen.

I must admit, that's a really professional looking integration of a computer into a car-very nice!
Not like some of the really really cheesy rice interior mods you see in some cars, you know, the ones where the moron owner took out all the interior panels and laid fiberglass on them (making them three times heavier in the process
) then painting it some god aweful neon blue or yellow.

Theres a serious difference between building a unique computer and tearing into your car and incorporating that computer....

I'm not sure, but this doesn't look like something that you can just build, it seems like you would have to spend a lot of money first to get the hardware. I think all he did was buy the parts and just integrate it into his dash. (which he did a very good job btw).

Personally unless you really need the cpu power I would suggest a Epia M10000N instead of the mATX+XP combo due to space, heat (do you really want an XP in the trunk or wherever during the summer?) , and power (the Opus is rated at 150W, to go higher you may need a less readily available psu or run an inverter, which is inefficient and introduces noise problems) considerations.

Now *THAT* would be a cool side business to run!!! I've talked to my dad before about starting a business building custom media center PCs. We live in a good market for that...so many million dollar+ homes going up around here, and custom A/V setups are quite popular. Most of the high-end custom A/V shops don't have much media center PC experience though, and homebuilt systems can go much farther than the XP Media Center PCs sold at Best Buy etc.. Loaded with the right software (Linux-based or Windows XP) I could sell one at a sweet markup. Car-based PCs would be fun to build too!
