maybe it's on the cable company's end...how are the TVs in the rest of your house?
argh...i just bought an ATI AIW 8500....i hope this thing is awesome.

-=bmacd=-

edit: lol @ the pic name. Did you accidentally switch it from NTSC to PAL?

I just got one for Christmas and had the same problem. One fix is to hold down Ctrl while opening the ATI TV program. The fix I used is to download Dscaler, and use that instead. It doesn't replace your drivers, so it's not a pain to install. Just TV viewing software. I was reluctant to use it, but believe me, it's better than ATI's software. Free too!

You'll need the ATI software to record shows though.

that's an IRQ conflict..

The TV wonder requires one free IRQ for itself.. disable one of the serial ports (in the bios) and then start up. I disabled Com port 2 and it took that IRQ. I have the card and that solved it.

I got my picture to work, Now my sound won't work. (even downloaded new drivers... :|)

I'll try the IRQ

Man how i hate this.....

I had the same problem with mine when I wanted to play my XBOX through it. At first I thought it was the refresh rate that I had set, but changing that only yielded results for one try. I returned my ATI TV Wonder and told myself I'd save up for a HDTV.

That is why I bought the MSI TV@nywhere. A much better card, that actually works properly under WinXP.

More like Windows XP sucks balls.
that pic right there was the reason why I went back to Windows 2000.

there is no fix for that under windowsXP

have the TV player running. change your desktop color depth. watch the picture come through like normal again. 😀

That happened to me too, and what I did was just to change my color depth. Going from 32-bit to 16-bit and vice versa fixes it (until of course it happens again).

No no... i REALLY TRUELY belive that this ATI is at fault. Such crappy customer support and their drivers are sheer horror.

NO SYSTEM SOUND but, I got video.... this is pissing me off. :|

ATI TV Wonder PCI or ATI TV Wonder USB? I had the USB edition and it wouldn't work under WinXP. It wasn't even supported and those that got it to work under XP installed the Win2k drivers. For me, I had no luck so I sold it and got myself a WinTV/XP.

ATI software/support SUCKS! 🙂

If you get one you will. I had the TV Wonder VE and it was a real POS :|

The card itself was great, but the drivers were COMPLETE POOH. Can't remember being so pissed off at a piece of hardware. ATi needs to come kiss my hiney for a few more vid card generations before I try anything else by them :| Bought my uncle a Radeon 7500 and nothing but trouble as well.

Use dscaler.

Let me point out, that while Ati's video card drivers have made MASSIVE improvements, their TV wonder VE drivers SUCK ASS TOTALLY... and they havent updated the Tv application in MONTHS.... i guess they put all other drivers on hold to work on their Catalysts.

Ati video in/fileplayer/tv application/support is teh suck. :|

EDIT: The one main point i have is that they haven't updated the drivers and software in MONTHS... the "problem"(which is only under XP btw) is even in their support system, it says to hold down shift as you start the TV application... WTF? you can't write your damn program to FIGURE OUT THAT IT IS RUNNING ON XP?

UberDave - did you plug the cable in between your ati tv card and your sound card?
just checking, as this would instantly solve your "no sound" problem.

i have a tv wonder ve card, run win2000, i use Dscaler on a 20" lcd screen - Dscaler images visibly superior (actually fantastic) compared to ATI driver images

i'm very pleased with the card (inspite of others who report problems)

let us know how the audio situation goes..

My bro has one of them and had some troubles with WinXP. He got it to work though, but I don't know what he did.

Is it possible to use it in a different mode, like '98? You know, the windows compatibility mode thing...

Just a thought, not sure if it is hardware related or not.

I had a picture problem like that with my Hauppauge WinTV on win2k. It only happend after a few hours of use. I'd have to let the card 'cool down' for several minutes to get a regular picture out of it again. Same thing happend in amcap, hauppauge's program and dscaler. Don't really know what I changed to fix it.

There are actually drivers to get it to work in XP now but it is still quite buggy. As for the sound, you may have to connect the audio out and the back of the card to your sound card's aux channel. It should work fine. If you don't have wire, just plug your speakers into the TV card's audio out.

nah you guys.... I agree totally on ATI being suck 😀, but it's the System sound that is not working now. Perfect video, etc... just no system sound what soever (no mp3s ....wavs....etc)

Great call sir...It works properly now using that win98 compatibility mode that you suggested. I often forget about that feature in XP. Thanks alot

I had no problem with the TV Wonder under XP. Or any of the All in Wonder Cards that had tuners.
