They are expensive, but they are also very nice laptops. Have you ever used one?

I have used them and they are nice, but I do think they are grossly overpriced.

Find another ultra light laptop with 640MB of ram, 802.11g, and a DVD burner for under $1799.

ill pursuade you... its still EXPENSIVE. no mac hating here, i am really intrigued by them and wanted one to mess around with, especially with the 200$ off iPOD for their back to school deal, but couldnt find any suitable laptop. i juts needed 256mb ram and cd-rw capabilities but that config was substantially more than the dell 1100 i ended up buying

They're HIDEOUSLY EXPENSIVE, not "overpriced." Overpriced means you get less than what you pay for. Macs give you every single pennies' worth and then some. In addition they don't depreciate all that much. Use a PC laptop for a year and you'll be lucky to get a 50% return on your original investment. Macs retain their value for YEARS.

I would truly REJOICE in the day when the macs/powerbooks are nearly as cheap AND as fast or faster than pc's. Until then tho...

Adobe is just going to stop making Premiere for Mac, not everything else... Apple's Final Cut Pro just beat Premiere so Adobe gave up on it for the mac.

its at www.apple.com/backtoschool

if you purchase any laptop-- with the exception of iBook WITHOUT cd-rw (their cheapest model)--along with an Ipod, you get 200$ off. if you also purchase a printer than you get an additional 100$ off

it beat premiere, or premiere pro, the final due out in august?

its interesting to see apple come out with their own software and charge another $300 for it ($999 vs. $699 prem. pro version).

...its yet another way to shoot themselves in the foot, cutting off a huge mac supporter while gouging the customer with another overpriced apple product.

How did they cut off a huge Mac supporter? It's not like Apple told Adobe to stop making Premiere for the Mac. Premiere 6.5 was just getting hammered on the Mac platfrom so Adobe did think it was worth it to have a Mac version of Premiere Pro. Now if Premiere Pro is as good as it's supposed to be there might be an out cry from Premiere Mac users and a Mac version might be developed (like what happened w/Avid) but we'll just have to wait and see. Premiere Pro sounds like it's light years ahead of any other Premiere version but we'll just have to wait for some head to head reviews before we can see how it stacks up to Vegas and FCP (the 2 programs that probably stole the most Premiere users).

Gouging the customer w/another overpriced apple product...? FCP 4 could easily cost $3-$4k but it only costs $999. And for about 15k you can build an FCP edit suite that will give a $100k Avid a run for it's money. Editors using FCP are just waiting for Apple to up the price of FCP and start charging people what it's worth. 'Cause, right now at $999, FCP is just a down right steal. Hell, I almost feel guilty paying only a grand for FCP... almost. ;)
