When attempting to download DirectX from microsoft's directx site, it states:

On Windows XP, you will need to download the latest Windows XP Service Pack. Please see the Knowledge Base article How to Obtain the Latest Windows XP Service Pack for more information.

So grab/reinstall SP1 for XP.

I get an error message, but it goes into the game after that....

send an email to the team. I'm sure they'd want to know about the problem, and who knows, they may fix it!

Oh, and you may need to re-install DirectX 8.1 in addition to Service Pack 1. Go look for DX 8.1 on MS' site now.

i got errors when i tried getting the list for deathmatch servers twice.. but when i did the other 2, ctf, and uh.. whatever the other one, it worked fine...

now all i need to figure out is what the heck is wrong with my ms intellimouse optical. i get sporatic response from it. kind of like the 1st generation optical mice when if you moved it too quickly, the mouse would go all over the place since it couldnt track it fast enough.. :(

no problems here. the game runs fantastic. have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? simple solution but worth a try.

This is a Direct 3D error, not Direct X

Browse to your UT2003 Folder....goto SYSTEM..There should be a UT2003.ini file...open it and change change how UT2k3 renders, from D3D to OpenGL..this should fix the problem

KY : Browse to the same folder (SYSTEM) and delete RUNNING.ini...it may take a few times, but this should fix your issue also

I've already reformated so I can't test this out.. :(

I noticed you have a 1.8G P4 overclocked. While I didn't get the error you're getting, UT2003 would lock after 20 minutes of play. I wasn't having any other problems using my system until then, but I did just get a new vid card, so I was blaming that. I did everything you likely did, short of a reinstall of XP. I thought before I tooked that step, that I would run my system stock first, and see what happened. To my dismay, it worked.

After playing for an hour or so, I went back to my orginal overclocked speed of 2.4G then ran the UT2003 benchmark, just to make sure. I still locked, so I played with my system settings until I found one that could run the benchmark 5 times without locking.

Now I'm not saying your CPU is the cause of your woes for sure, but it sounds like you did everything else.

Yea, it wouldn't work when it back to 1800.. I've run it fine at my overclocked speeds after rebooting though, leaving me to believe it may have been what CptObvious was saying.

I haven't noticed it making another error except for the server lists, which is now fixed.

Sounds like the reinstall of XP did it then. I may have to try it, but I'll wait for a later beta, or the full game.
