OMG, 512MB RAM for gaming, Ive been missing out!

Just installed another stick of 256mb ddr266, and my god, all my BF1942 lag problems went away! This game runs smooth as silk now with FSAA/AA on max at 1028x768!
 
BF1942 is especially greedy in terms of memory usage. Certain games won't really benefit at all, but some games absolutely need 512MB to run properly.
 
you definately notice the increase. some people were saying you needed 1 GB to run SimCity 4 well😕
 
The largest missions in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries definitely call for 512Mb too. Even with Win2k I was getting max memory usage of about 350Mb.
 
I just had one of my sticks of RAM go south on me so I'm down to 256 MB for the time being while it's RMAed, and No One Lives Forever 2 caused me to fall asleep waiting for levels to load. I'm really looking forward to getting that stick back....

Yea, the bigger your city is, the more ram it gobbles up. I've got 512MB of ram on my rig (check my sig, its "perseus"), and the rest of it isn't slow either. I'm starting to get slowdown with a city of about 8,000 sims. It's not bad, but its noticable.

Glad you problems went away w/ the RAM upgrade. I'm currently running 768MB's of RAM and must say that when I was running less that 512, lag was an issue w/ some games.
 
One of my cousin works for crucial, and has gotten a stick 512MB PC2100 for $77 ordered for me (15% workers discount). Hopefully this will be able to run flawless with all my slots populated running 144MHZ FSB @ cas 2 2:4:2. My 3dmarks went up 300 pts with 256mb, lets see how another 512mb will do.😉


Anyone here game with 1GB of ram?

OMG! Simcity 4 requiers a freaking GIG of ram! I havne't played the game yet but that is excessive...what is all that ram used for! I have simcity 3k and with 256 megs of ram it was fine.

Then again in most of my cities I end up bankrupting within a few years 😛

don't have it yet, but i'm waiting for the price to hit rock bottom, then i'll get myself a stick of 512MB PC2100 ram
 
Hmm... So it's not the graphics card that's holding me back eh? I've got 512MB of RAM but only a 64MB MX440 (hey I got it for free ok!). I'm noticing major slowdown in SimCity 4 with a pop or 50k. Thought I needed a better graphics card 😱
 
if i ever scrounge the cash i'm getting 1 GB of corsair xms. and maybe a sis655 😀

Well, yes, the graphics card is definately contributing to the slowdown
 
I burned out a 256 MB stick of Crucial PC2100 by running it at PC2700 CAS 2. Now I only have 256 MB and it sucks! I ordered a really cheap stick of Simpletech PC2700 from Newegg for $48 shipped and I hope it works out OK.... I'll find out Monday.
