I just got this from Tweaktown. I didn't know if I should post this here or in the vid card section. But since the OT forum has more traffic I decided to post it here. Here is the notice from off of their site.

Former 3DFX form New Company, 3DPower! - June 6, 11:56PM by Mr.Tweak
More live (VERY EXCLUSIVE) coverage here from Computex 2001, Taiwan. Former employees of 3DFX (including x-CTO, Scott Sellers) will be announcing a totally new company called 3DPower this Monday!

We have been informed that about 90% of the former employees of 3DFX will be working for this company, according to our source 3DPower will be debuting with a graphics card called the 3DPower Absolute, which is believed to be based around the 3DFX RamPage graphics chipset - SLI may not be gone after all. The PCB of the card will be black with gold componets seated in a nifty wooden box.

It seems 3DPower has secretly formed this new company without nVidia nor 3DFX knowing, what will nVidia have to say about this? - It could raise some serious legal issues. We should be able to speak to nVidia about this tomorrow. We also must stress that this information has not been confirmed, but it does come from a reliable source. Again this is not confirmed, but as I see it 3DPower and Absolute Multimedia have merged, which potentially could make one very influential company. Take care!

Could it be? Could 3dfx once again rise from the dead? I thought they sold all of their technology? OMG this is shocking, if it is true! :Q

posted yesterday... but like, there is no way that "3DPower" can legally use anything in the Rampage chipset. so they are gonna be hard up.

Also, it seems to be a "front" company.......how else can you explain them being in business since early 2000????;) I'd say a bunch of the former employees formed an agreement with this already existing company to develope for them.........problem is, they'll have to start completely from scratch! All rights from 3dfx are now property of nVidia!;)

Somehow i doubt the validity of these stories. Go to 3dPower (slow loading). But you will see that they sell nvidia products. I mean hell, they even make a GeForce3. Maybe nividia will pull the same stunt as with hercules? HeheheWorking in secret even before the 3dfx and nvidia merger? Hmmm, isn't that some violation of the employees? Don't know much about this but, you're all right, it woudl be cool

Well, Rampage was nearly done before the merger - maybe this is the generation after Rampage...

hmmm well if the buyout of 3dfx was forseen by them, than its a possibility that some of the latest patents they have may have be patented in private names, & Just used by 3dfx.....

Besides that mabye the folks at 3dfx were working on stuff that nobody knew about including nvidia, that may mean that they had a wild card up there sleave the whole time & Found a greyat way to end all the lawsuits...

Just speculation, but when a company re-arises that fast, under a new name, but not hiding who they are than I Doubt it was by chance....

If this really is 3dfx, that's cool, but they'd have to start completely over. All of 3dfx' intellecual property now belongs to nvidia, including Rampage, Fear, and the thing after Fear(its been too long, I forget what it was called). That would be really cool though....Dave, where are you?
