At that depth they will hold up pretty well, but will get growth soon. Saltwater and corrosion occurs at much shallower depths and higher temps, it is very cold were those cars are parked.

Also think about black boxes (from planes) they transport them in saltwater because as soon as they take them out they start to corrode. So if you want a car, happy diving and bring lots of air. ;)

I picture a 60 year old man who just put his 2 daugheters through college and had enought to finally buy his Bimmer. Goes to the dealership all excited and cutom builds his dream car. He's told it will take 8 weeks for delivery but he doesn't care, he's been waiting 60 years. Then he gets the dreaded call from the dealership that his baby has sunk and he must wait another 8 weeks for his car to arrive...

i dont get it - whats another 8 weeks to him? obviously isnt interested in having it imediatly if he ordered it.

Another 8 weeks... It would be torture. I mean.. waiting patiently for the 8 weeks would not be bad for him... but when it isn't there after the 8 weeks, he'll have to live with the thought that it might never come.

Yup. Its not a true story. I might make a nice 10 minute flick but its just something I thought up. He gets the "dreaded phone call" that his "baby" is sitting at the bottom of the ocean. Maybe I'll write a short story about it. Its got to come in handy in the future...

the ship had been carrying 2,862 cars ? high-end BMWs, Volvos and Saabs

:Q

make sure you run a carfax report for the next few months on those cars... make sure there's no "heavy water damage" anywhere on it.

How about a while back when a Nissan car carrier sank to the bottom of the Pacific.

All those Nissan fanbois must have been crying.

Based on the value listed in the news article ($49 million) and the number of cars (2,862), the average price on these is barely over $17,000.

These are hardly "high-end" BMW's.

It might as well have been a boatload of Civics.

Maybe they're quoting 'actual cost' instead of even dealer invoice...who knows? Someone already said they were prolly Minis (don't cry NFS4!)

They probably were mostly minis, that's the only way the average value could be that low - unless these are USED cars.
