Epox 8rda+
xp 2100+ (199x11.5)
512mb pc3000 kingston hyperx (199fsb)
radeon 9700 pro (stock speed)

How am i only getting 13600? here's a screenshot of my 3dmark2001. here is another screenshot of my settings for opengl and direct3d settings. my graphics card is locked at 66mhz. fast write is off. nothing is running in the background. cpu and case temp are around 37C. edit: motherboard driver is 2.03. bios is dated 3/5/03. hd defraged. using dx9. cat driver 3.1.

edit2: here is my link to 3dmark2003. 4557....wtf?!?!?!

Update1: HOORAY...my latest score is 15800!!! i posted on a bunch of different forums and got lots of helpful feedbacks. thanks people :D

i changed a bunch of things: fastwrite to on, cpu throttling, and also formatted my computer. i'll mess around with the fastwrite and cpu throttling to see if that made any difference. i'll make sure and give you guys an update once i figure it out.

update2: i turned cpu throttling back to default (50% i think) and fastwrite off again, and the score was the same. so.......it was a software problem. formatting helped!!! well, i'll be damn. thanks everyone for all of the help.

although i'm only getting 4,700 in 3dmark03. is that normal for my spec. i don't have registered version of 2003 so i have no clue.

You need to upgrade again ;)

Seriously I dont know what could cause it... Updated the motherboard chipset drivers? DX9? Defrag your HD? :p

iLoveDivX, this is going to kill you but I got 12,992 3DMarks yesterday and I wasn't even done tweaking then. I got a 13,4xx score late last night but I didn't submit it. You definitely have some tweaking to do, your system should smack mine around like a red headed stepchild.

My specs are in my sig. :)

try unchecking the application preference tabs for aa and af, and wait for vsync under d3d to always off. Might work.

ok, I'm new, and I can admit that. When people say tweaking, do they mean anything other than OC'ing if so, what? I would really like to improve my systems performance.

wouldn't unchecking it mean that the video card will be forced to work at with aa and af? also, i've tried turning off vsync. doesn't work.

Send it to me, I'll fix it. Don't worry if the case looks a little different when it comes back.

:D

Anyhow, I think he's trying to find out if you have it set to app. pref. under both AA and Ansio in the drivers. You want it checked at App. Pref. for the test. And make sure 3dmark isn't trying to run with any extra stuff on either.

Otherwise, is it a new system? Did you have Nvidia before? Did you clean install if so?

Click this to enable Application Preference. This gives Direct 3D® applications the ability to enable Anti-aliasing. If an application does not specify, then anti-aliasing is not enabled. Uncheck this to enable Anti-aliasing. The Anti-aliasing setting overrides Direct 3D® applications' anti-aliasing setting.

so I would uncheck the boxes and set the direct3d vsync to off rather then application preference and see if it works. Theres a chance 3dmark might be running something extra.

No, no, no, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot, so to speak.

There is no 0x AA or 0xAF setting, so when unckecked it would use AT LEAST 2x AA and 2x AF. YOU WANT THESE BOXES CHECKED SO THE APP DECIDES, AND MAKE SURE 3DMARK IS NOT RUNNING ANY AA or AF.

got yah, didn't get a chance to really play around/learn the settings when I was running a 8500 card.

The most important thing is how do actual *games* perform with your new system? Do actual game benchmarks pretty much conform to what you'd expect them to be on your system? If so, then your 3DMark score is irrelavent (actually, its irrelevent either way, but I digress).

iLoveDivX, you definately have something wrong!

My rig below is running same clock speed, 200fsb and 9700 Pro at default speeds.
CAT 3.1 drvrs, ram timings 6222, nothing in backround(msconfig), clean install of WinXp, sp1, cat 3.1's directX 9.0
My fast writes are ON

I'm, getting 16,000+ 3dmarks in 3dmark 2001.
Ands thats an honest score, no screwing with video quality or any other tricks, everything at default.

Whats your ram timings in bios?

What slots are your ram sticks in? (or do you only have one?)

Are you running your ram in sync with the fsb?
wouldn't unchecking it mean that the video card will be forced to work at with aa and af? also, i've tried turning off vsync. doesn't work
Just click the DEAFULTS tabs and you're good to go here.

Are you running a default 3dmark? 1024x768x32

If ya need to compare bios settings, I'll post mine.

I might as well just post as much info as I can think of as being relevant.

Heres my info.

Mobo...
I removed the jclk jumper from the mobo, since some people suggested this helps with fsb stabiliy. (see page 3-2 of 8RDA+ manual)
i have no idea if its helping or not, but its not hurting, so i left it off.

My sticks of ram are in dual channel...Dimm slots 3 and 1...LOOK oN PAGE 3-2 OF MANUAL!...THEY'RE NUMBERED WIERD!

BIOS
System Performance - Expert
CPU clck Ratio - 11.5
FSB Frequency - 200mhz
CPU INTERFACE - optima
Memory Frequency - 100%
Resulting Frequency - 200mhz
Memory timings
6
2
2
2
fsb spread spectrum - disabled
agp spread spectrum - disabled
frame buffer size - 32m
agp aperature size - 128
agp frequency - 66mhz
agp 8x support - enable
agp fast write comapatability - enabled
CPU THERMAL THROTTLING - DIABLED! (i bolded this, be sure its turned off just in case your temp readings arent accurate)
This is one of the few things i feel could be killing your performance that much.

system bios cacheable - disabled
video ram cacheable - disabled

Not sure any other bios setting are relevant or would be affecting your performance that much.
But if ya need/want them...just ask.

WinXp
msconfig / startup - All i got checked is atiptaxx ...NOTHING else checked
CTRL-ALT DEL at desktop shows - NOTHING
Desktop 1024x7698 32 bit color
ATI control panel - EVERYTHING DEFAULT SMARTGART tab shows agp 8x with fast writes on

You sure you got a clean install of the 3.2 drivers and the correct control panel?

Heck, i dont know what else to check, if ya need to compare ANY system info...LMK

EDIT: Oops, just looked at your 3dmark 2001 link, so i see you are testing at 1024x768x32

my bios is almost identical to yours. i have only 1 stick of ram. it's in the first slot (the single one). i'll enable fastwrite after this post. what does cpu throttling do? i'll disable it also once i'm done. cat driver is 3.1 with the correct control panel. ram timing is 5-2-2-2.

going from an nvidia card to an ati card without a reinstall of windows is hazardous
