I used to work 6 days on, 2 days off. The days off rotated every week and got weekends off every 6 weeks which turned out to be something like 12 weekends off a year. It sucked. We also had a ton of OT so that would make the 8 hour days 12 hours x 6.

I now work 5 days a week with Sun/Mon off @ 8 hours but my commute sucks.

Currently working 12 but only 3 shifts, or sometimes, 1 on, 1 off, 2 on. Harder part is the working the wed, thurs, fri nights and being back for monday days. The 7 days off is nice.

I'm currently a student and I have a job about once a month where I work 40-46 hours in three days. Not too bad as it's my main source of income and I also work an easy school job 10hrs/week.

i'm working 5 12's, 1 off, repeat

You operate on a 6 day week?

just a rotating day off, so we have as much coverage as possible (this is only for a month and a half)

I'll be doing 6 12's a week pretty soon a big project for about 6 months.

Kind of looking forward to it because of the big paychecks that will come out of it.

I do 3-12's for two weeks then 4-12's each third week. It is very nice to have 3 or 4 days off every week.

Those with 12+ shifts could tell us in which industry they are.... I work 44 to 46 hours M-F with ability to put that extra hours in any day.

I've worked on average 16 hour days for the past 14 months, no days off. Some 48+ hour days thrown in there for good measure. Of course, my situation is a bit different... there is no "off" to go to :p

my girlfriend is a nurse and works three 12s plus a 4 or an 8 every week. Next week she's doing two 16-hour shifts. I am itching to get home after 4 hours at work! I don't know how people do it either.

I did it for years, but now I'm finding it harder to do. I worked 31 hours straight (no sleep) just this last week, and it took me about 2 days to feel normal again. I used to be able to pull days like that, go out that night and then be up and ready the next morning.

Ahh well. My opinion is that it's not at all healthy for any extended period of time.

12 hour workdays are long depending on what your doing. For me, driving a truck for 12 hours is no problem. Working in a school for 12 hours with mouthy kids will mentally destroy you. Im a lazy fuck but if I wanted I could work 16 hours a day, 8 hours of stress work and 8 hours of relax sitting around doing nothing work.

Several years ago I use to do 18x6(m-sa) + 16x1 (sunday). Did this for two years and then switched to 18x5 and couple hours on the weekend.

Forgot to add major holidays were 14s

I've been doing it since January 1st, and it will be like this until April 15th. Then back to 35-40 hour work weeks. 60+ hour work weeks suck. Red Bull and coffee.

..I work 4/10. 10 hour days do suck. 5/8 is a better fit for most people. 4/10 works better for commuters. They can get a 2nd job to help pay for their gas. Days off aren't days off for many people. Just another job to go to.

Ahhhh, gotcha. Yeah, that gets long. I worked 16 1/2 hour shifts every day (as in no days off) for five weeks when I started working security at the hospital. That was fun. 8-(

16 half-hour shifts in one day? When did you sleep?

I used to work a 7 hour job, have an hour off, and then work and 8 hour job.

I also for a while worked an 8 hour day, 7am- 3pm, then worked
3:30 pm till 9PM, And,
6 days a week, got up at 2am and delivered newspapers till 5:30am, UGH.

It wasn't bad for a couple years, but I was in my early 20's.

Yesterday was 5:30am till 8:30pm, kinda long day.

If you think that 12 hour shifts are bad, try some 12 hour IT operations night shifts! They are profoundly boring.

Now I know what it's like to be an overnight security guard... although they actually have MORE work responsibilities than my group seems to overnight :)

I used to work 10hrs 4 days a week overnight at my old job in WV. I'd work 10 hours 5 days a week overnight + the weekend OT if they'd let me at my current job. I could definitely use the extra money in my savings.
