So, I'm doing work for the customs department. We have this GIGANTIC database with all the products that get exported/imported by my company. By Gigantic, I mean ten thousand entries or more.

I got my mega-project today. I need to look over EVERY ENTRY, to make sure the business code is correct. Fvck. All ten thousand. And there's no shortcuts.

yes how do you know if it is correct. you must be able to write a script based on the business rules.

Unfortunately not.

For example, let's take RC-3870, Acrylic Resin. Since it's a resin, it belongs to group 24, which is Ajax(Dupont Performance Coatings).

I can't write a script because

1) I don't know how to
2) They need to be visually accounted for.

You've got to be able to automate this. What does it matter if its visually inspected by you or a computer program? And if you don't know how to script it, learn or have someone do it for you; you've got have some programmers around there somewhere.

Otherwise tell them it will take a severely long amt of time and only work on it when you feel like it :p

OMGZ the exact same thing happened to me last week! I spent my first week doing some filing of invoices by invoice number. Took me like 3 fvcking days.

"Umm...the boss doesn't like that system. Do it by date."

AAARGH!
