OMFG Why is my Volcano 9 soo loud?

I just bought one and installed it on my 1800+ XP and its realllly loud!!! How can I lower the sound of the fan? Is there any way? Pleasee there must be a way!!

BTW I even bought the silent and smart edition.... Its not even silent at all!!

because thermaltake sucks?

do a 7v mod or just get a fan controler.

I could've swore volcano 9 has some sort of censor, or was that the 9+?

honestly, all thermaltake stuff sucks, they make a flashy case and everything else flashy but it's not ready yet, they should continue to perfect heatsink.

I thought the Volcano 9 was a POS Heatsink with a Smart Fan 2 mounted on it. It should have come with a Small Potentiometer to control your fan speeds. If you didn't get this then you probably could buy a new fan and mount it on it or undervolt the current fan.

Edit: Thermal Take's Website - Volcano 9 It says it comes with a fan controller.

As long as other people are pointing it out... every thermaltake product I've seen sucks, for lack of a better word.

Well, I've got it. It came with a little dohickey to change the speed -- i ran mine out of a tiny hole in the back of my case so i can change the speed whenver i want -- i usually keep it around 3000rpm but crank it up when i game.

Ok I have a question about this. Before I read from everyone how Thermaltake sucks, I bought a Volcano 11+, and I've got to say it works just fine. With the Smart Fan turned all the way down, my cpu temps are 36 C with F@H running, even if I play UT2k3 for a while. If I crank the fan up, my temps stay at 32 C. I've got no problems with it at all and can't understand why everyone says they suck so bad. Is it just that they are overpriced? I would agree with that, now that I've shopped around some more.

On a side note, I have an SLK-800 coming and will be passing the TT on to my brother 🙂 But that's not because the TT sucks, just that the SLK will be better, and he won't ever check his temps to see the difference anyhow.

i just installed one today, i set it up with the manual control the little pontetiometer thingy, i had to figure it out ma self coz the instructions jus told me how to do the lights on the coolmod, and a bit bout the 3 modes u can put the smart fan in. i chose the 3rd mode which is manual fan control.

on its lowest settin the fan is superbly quiet. my HDD are louder!!, (but there are two of them)

ok ill admit, its abit loud on full whack, and with the ccase side off,(i got a shoddy case with no airflow whatsoever) it sound like a industrial grade fan, but it dont half get the job done.

u may have just installed it in fixed mode, which is full speed at all times.

dont bother with the little temp sensor, its fiddly to install an busts if u put too much pressure on, and goin on how much i had to push jus to get the clip on, im glad i never coz i reckon it would be broken by now.

Man, today I accidentally stuck my finger into my volcano 7+ and it nearly took my finger off! My index finger is all bloody and the nail is cut in half. Ouch.

i wonder if a smart fan II @ 4600 rpm can rip a finger off....

I accidentally stick my finger in a smart fan2 at full speed
It did not hurt but two blades broke on the fan 🙁

Would the mystery guest be uhh... superman? I wouldn't want you poking that finger into my chest after a traffic altercation.

I had two of those Volcano 9's set on thermal sensors each. One is still in a friend's machine, the other got split where the hs in on a kid's cpu with a lighted fan and the smart fan went back to a server I just built using a Thermalright sk-7. With the server, instead of using the sensor I installed the manual control. Like another said earlier, I run it on manual slow and quiet with a new cpu that runs cooler, but if I need it I can spin it up to over 5k rpm.

I would rather have the fan broke than have my finger all torn up.

abey03, did you can connect the fan speed controller and set how fast you want the fan.
Make sure the jumper is not connected when you plug the controller in, because it will make the fan run at max speed.

I found the little switch so I turned it all the way down. It still cools pretty good and the sound seems to have went down. The noise is still loud but not as loud as before. Thanks guys!

I don't know so much about it being loud at any setting, but Thermaltake's fan selections on their coolers tend to whine 🙁 I HAAAAAAATE that

Peace

It can't be worse than the Dragon Orb 3. Almost sounded like a tornado was in my case, and I HAD to shut it down to sleep.

Because they make their stuff look good instead of focusing on performance and then they still change a lot of money for it.

I am getting a XP 2600+/333 and may OC it later.
Shoudl I buy a Vantec AeroFlow TMD or Thermaltake Volcano 9 for my CPU?
I thought the variable speed is good to give you more air flow when the CPU is running hot.
What about use the variable speed on the Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II? For $10, is it a good price for a case fan?

I would go with the Aeroflow (I did after my Volcano 9 went belly up) and enjoy the quiet that I didn't have with the Volcano 9. I won't trade my Aeroflow for anything. 🙂

Thermaltake does make DAMN noisy coolers, but my Xaser III case is the shiznit. Using a Barton 2500+ with the stock HSF, and the 7 fans in the Xaser, it's still quiet than my old case with no fans and a Volcano 9.

So saying all Thermaltake is crap isnt really fair.

but look at the Xaser III, its the too over done. Seems like they put too much design into it.
