My wife just got a new plant called Ornamental Pepper plant and for poops and grins thought I would try one. Cut it open it it smelled like a green peper would smell so I took a bite and my mouth, gums, lips, tongue, and throat are on fire!!!!!!

I love hot stuff and I would have to say this is like the time I tried some of the hot sauce that is out there that one drip and your down and out. This is just like that except I took a bite and it just wont go away and I didnt even swallow the stuff. As soon as it hit my mouth I spit it out. Man these little peppers are going to make a kick butt chilli!

Hint: it is called an ORNAMENTAL pepper plant = not meant for eating

Hey ass hat they are for eating :p My wife bought it locally because she thought it looked pretty. The guy said they were hot if you ate them but damn these are freaking hot!

Umm from the link you provided in your original post:
The non-edible peppers grow upright and stand out brightly against the dark green foliage. Approximate plant height is 10" to 12", including container.

funboy42 - use the urine to make stop the burn. Ammonia stop burn, but kind from beneath the water bowl of kitchen its too strong. The urine has correct relativity of ammonia for your problem.

I just help. It strange, but all Ukraine moms say, yes, use the urine!

Interesting. The tag that came with the plant I got just says they are "child and pet safe, non-pungent fruits." I guess child and pet safe because if they eat one, it won't kill them, and they certainly won't do it again?

I don't understand why that one site says not to overwinter them. Of course they decline in vigor...and then spring comes and they perk back up. I do the same thing with my calla lilies. They flower in November, by February most of the fronds die off, but when spring comes around, it comes back big.

If I can't keep this pepper around and kicking for a couple years, I think it will make a pretty mean Bonsai.

Pick them, cut them into small pieces, and make a salsa. Then add a tiny bit of the salsa to other sauces to dillute it.

UMMMMM Im not sure where you pulled that from but the first part of it goes:

The Ornamental pepper (Capsicum frutescens) native to South America, is prized for its spectacular red fruit, which can be eaten if the plant has been organically grown. The peppers start out green, turn white, purple, red and orange. Often all these colors may be present on the plant simultaneously.

HMMMM Says it can be eaten which is the one I have BUT you responded with the POISONIOUS one:

The Jerusalem Cherry (Solanum pseudocapsicum), also native to South America, has non-edible, poisonous, round bright orange or yellow fruits. Both are members of the Solanaceae (Potato) family with similar cultural requirements.

Again I say your a asshat :D

Looks like they are actually Kayenne peppers maybe

I have to agree with him.

You provided a link to the plant you said you bought. Then right there in the 1st paragraph of the link you provided it says "non-edible". And you must have a very strange sense of "round" because the pic I see at the ftd link you provided does not appear to have round peppers to me.

Now I quote:

The Ornamental Pepper plant makes a unique and vibrant statement in a striking brass pot. Perfect for summer or fall decorating, this multi-colored plant is for decorative purposes only and will add a dash of color in any room setting. Ornamental peppers thrive indoors as a houseplant with plenty of sunlight. The non-edible peppers grow upright and stand out brightly against the dark green foliage. Approximate plant height is 10" to 12", including container. This item is delivered using FedEx® next day service.

I changed the link to the other one that give a better description as to what they are. The first link was to the ones they were selling that were not edible because they may not of been organicaly grown.
