Yikes... I hope he's ok.

I'm a Yanks fan but you want to win because you beat them... not rejoice in people's misfortunes. Only BoSox fans do that 😉

thats terrible. everytime i hear about something like this i cant help but always think of herb score and taking a gil mcdougald line drive in the eye and ending his season. looking at his numbers and what mantle said, score came back but was never the same.

Yeah, that's the one everyone brings up.
Earlier this season Carl Pavano took a line drive in the jaw and was fine.

Damn. That sucks.. 🙁

My little cousin is gonna be pissed too.. because 1) He's a big BoSox fan (he was born & raised in Boston) and 2) He has Clement on his fantasy team.

Is he still the commentator for the Indians games?

and pitchers don't wear a batter's helmet (which sounds ridiculous, i know), but fastballs to the head are the reason i think batters wear them.

Got hit by the ball right on the head 🙁

Quit the game, and no news yet on his condition...

if he is the boston redsox pitcher (as someone previously said in this thread), why doesn't he have fast enough reflexes to catch the ball? 😕

Are you seriously asking this question? Do you have any idea how fast that ball is coming off the bat? The pitcher is only 65 feet from the batters box. He has less than a second to dodge/react. I know you're a female and all, but that is an absolutely retarded question about reflexes.

i don't really watch that much baseball. i didn't even know who the guy was till i entered this thread. 😛

You have obviously never played a game of baseball in your life, so why even comment?

Anyways -

Have to wish him the best of health, it's a shame, he was finally breaking out of his inconsistancy that has plagued his performance in past seasons. Major set back for the Red Sox. Atleast it was a glancing blow and not a direct hit. Hopefully he can get back out and pitch a simulated game or something asap. You don't want to rush his return to competition, but you also don't want to let fear end his career.

you're right. i've only played softball. and how is anyone to comment, when none of us are in the major leagues? how am i supposed to know that my comment is inaccurate? it was an honest question. i'm entitled to ask a question, thankyouverymuch.

and btw, i already addressed this question two posts above yours if you bothered to read the thread.

The ball caromed off the back of Clement's head just behind his ear into short left field for an RBI single.
Does anyone else find this sentence morbidly humorous?

I did

I have been following Clement's Career since he was a prospect with the padres (and I was upset when they trtaded him for Kotsay)

Get well soon Matt!

It's nice to see classy Yankee fans chiming in here with kind words. Good to see you guys have your head screwed on right. 🙂

This is a definite hazard in baseball, that noone has control over. I hope the guy's going to be ok.

Uh what? They could start using some helmets/masks... it's very preventable.

Even less actually - 60'6"

And the pitcher is probably 5 feet in front of that by the time the ball is hit.

Yah. That reminds me of when Kaz Ishii was nailed whne he was with the Dodgers. He was still in the forwarding leaning position from throwing the pitch. when the ball drilled him square in the forhead. I seriously thought he was dead when he laid out on the ground.
