Because Microsoft is a company with almost no genuine achievements, and Halo is one of the rare things they have got users to like, and they can't find any other way to have users use their newely released OS, pathetic if you ask me, not like I even like Halo, but when you reach a level were you are publicly forcing users to migrate to a new OS just for a game, then you are admitting that your new OS is worthless and has no new features that might intrest those who will have to pay for it!
Sweet, 2 of the smelly linux users have made it into the thread!

sweet, someone wants to start another microsoft vs linux war

K, Linux is better than MS in terms of customizability, speed, and security. MS is better than Linux in terms of user friendliness, games, and hardware compatability. Thats what all Linux v MS wars boil down to. Thats why u dual boot 🙂

Such topics have been up for debate quite often. I know you are trying to smooth over any corners right now and I find that's cool.

In all honesty though, it's quite hard to determine which operating system is more user friendly.

For a true test, you would need someone to test it out who has never touched a computer in their life before. Why do I say this? Because most of the people in the world have already been trained in windows. Yes, trained. Is Windows friendly? It is when you know how to use it. Is Linux friendly? It is when you know how to use it. Which one has the bigger learning curve? That's a topic which is never ending

wrong forum for that, take it to P&N 😉 actually I doubt that anyone in Washington cares about Halo 2

I hope other games don't do that 'cause I won't be able to upgrade to vista right away, I can't afford to do that 🙁 heck it was months and months after xp came out that I could upgrade to it from 98....

Lol, i think it is "in" for people to hate things that are big. Like all the people here saying how much they hate Halo. The game won awards for a reason people. Quit downing the thread because you didn't think it was the greatest game on earth. I loved the first half of halo, and all of Halo 2, but you dont see me saying, "shutup noob! the game wasn't my favorite game therefore it doesn't deserve to be talked about". IMO, i dont like this move either. I was really hoping they would give it to XP users as well. Halo for the PC was probably going to be the only thing to get me to upgrade my computers cards from Ge Force 4 MX's. IMO, no other game has really been worth it. Aw well, guess ill just keep my cards for another 2 years until i have to get a laptop for college.

who cares. in a year everyone will have vista. get over it.

Umm, I doubt it. Believe it or not, there are still a TON of people out there who are still using Windows 2000 and Windows 98/ME.

Besides, if I was a game developer that wasn't owned by Microsoft, I'd want to make sure that my title is available to as many people as possible. That means supporting older versions of Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

I was speaking strictly of our post.

While I doubt I'll be trying (at least for a while. can never predict the future) Vista, to say it is worthless is assuming too much. Microsoft made a decision to make halo 2 only available for vista. Fine. whatever. It might be a reason of technology or a marketing reason. Who knows. However, just because of this, doesn't make the OS worthless. Before you start bashing a product, one needs to actually evaluate it.

For example, tried out IE 7 beta 2. And unless Microsoft makes some HUGE improvements on the final release, I can already confirm it's a POS.

how is this any different than the next mario on the revolution, or the next metal gear solid on ps3, or halo 3 on xbox360?

Because, my computer is not a fvcking console I should have to upgrade in order to play games on! As long as I meet the hardware requirements, you damn well better let me play my game (you cannot call Windows Vista a new OS, that's like calling an updated Linux kernel a new OS) or you can take your stupid port and shove it up your ass.

uh...Halo isn't one of Microsoft's genuine acheivements. Bungie created it...MS paid for it.

Halo 1.5 sucks.
Bullet lag.
Nice graphics.
I really don't see how they'll get an award.
Even x-box players think the PC version of it sucks. X-box version pwns.

But, as long as it boosts sales of Vista... Microsoft doesn't give a damn.

You're kidding right? Halo on the XBOX is better than Halo PC? Fat chance, online support + pixel shader 2.0, not to mention running at something other than 640x480 = Halo PC >>> Halo XBOX. And if you're talking about Halo 2 (or Halo 1.5 as you stupidly call it) being on PC, it isn't, not yet.

I read that Vista will require a new monitor with copyright protection of some kind built in to be able to play video at full res. That alone will keep me on XP for the forseeable future.

But anyway, Halo isn't great enough to worry that it's only available on Vista. BF2 is fun too, you know - if you can get past the bunny hoppers and C4 noobs and noobtubers and spawn killers and people who walk through walls and worm jumpers and otherwise cheat.

Yeah, but XP was actually an UPGRADE from Win2k, and was a better OS overall. Vista looks like XP SP3, and not much else.

??

Having XP SP2 and 2k on computers side by side, I can safely say that the only thing that XP has that I miss on 2k is the windows picture and fax viewer.

HAHAHAHAH!

I'll have Vista ready for every new system that goes out my doors, unless a customer requests XP. Why? Because it's the move ahead for Windows.

I myself will upgrade to Vista as well, on a separate machine, to see what kinks and bugs Vista has on release..

What, you doing this just so you can be included in the class action lawsuit against Microsoft selling bug-filled software to consumers and forcing you to be beta-testers?

Seriously, Microsoft is using DirectX 10 as leverage to upgrade, and that's about it. Recent game I bought this year still supported Windows 98. And last I checked, DirectX 9 is available for Windows 98. So why can't DirectX 10 be released for XP? Because Microsoft knows that hardly anyone would pay money just to upgrade away from XP.
