I was browsing the CPU Forum here on AT and found a thread on Overclocking...UberL33tJared wrote up this cool guide to OC'ing but he has the funniest clip ever of someone OCing.

EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀

SUPER OCed duron. heatsink fan dies (i think it is real). They take off heatsink. Airpocket under processor causes processor to explode, and a hole in mobo. It is extreme!

it died, but look at how he takes the fan off......no effort.....

and it looks like he grabs the heatsink metal which at the time would also be very hot.

are you calling shens? How would he set this up then? Also, it's amazing nobody got hurt. Flying shrapnel would seriously injure you.

I watched the clip again and it seems like the guy talking didn't even know the chip exploded...only the camera guy ^^

not calling shens, I am just saying that I doubt it was an accident....

My sarcasm meter is broken so I don't know if you guys are serious.

Of course this is setup.

yes of course it is setup, but it is bloody brilliant. what did it for me was the accent, if it was just some normal sounding dude saying "too extreme" it would not have been funny, but the way they did it had me rolling, i want more from these guys if it exists.

the p4 vid is ok, not as funny as the AMD one, the 5ghz is something from tomshardware but still pretty cool

Obvious setup (CPUz screenie is a very obvious photochop), the heatsink was not attached and if I had to guess, I'd say that they put a firecracker under the CPU. These Durons run pretty cool so the passive cooling would hold up for a good while with the heatsink, but once he takes it off temperature skyockets, lighting the firecracker. CPUs don't explode like that, some of the traces on the die would vaporize and the whole thing would go up in smoke and shut down since the circuit would be open.

Funny though 🙂

I still think it is really funny stuff but

heres what someone thought on another message board:

That's really cheesy, I've seen lots of things die due to too much voltage, that would never happen. I don't know exactly what they did, but it was lame. A doctored up cpuz screenie and and a firecracker maybe? 4v, that chip would have burst from the core, and smoked with or without the heatsink. What a waste of bandwidth, I thought it would at least be entertaining. I don't know why people would even try to pass that off as if it actually happened. I thought maybe they actually did overvolt the chip until it blew up. Behold the power of cheese. 🙄I agree, especially with the other video of a P4 doing exactly the same thing. The LED on the mobo (if there was one) wasn't on, nor did the mobos warp from heat, and on both videos the CPU fan wasn't on, nor was it clear if the VGA out was connected to that monitor or not.

I think there was a hole in the table, with fireworks put into it.

This is especially obvious in the one where there is smoke coming from under the table prior to the explosion, yet the CPU cores and surrouding areas have no visible heat damage. Plus, all of them blowing an identical hole in the same table? Ha.

Plus to suggest that extra voltage would cause this is stupid, since nothing would explode, nor would 4-5V be able to do anything like this. A fire, possibly, but an explosion? Not without some help in the form of explosives.

Lame.

EDIT: Perhaps the biggest giveaway is that the dude takes the heatsink off with his fingers, even though the fan is broken. Unplug the fan on your proc, watch it hit 70-80C and then try grabbing the heatsink with your fingers; you'd get blisters.
