OMFG Anthrax scare near my apartment!!!

My friend just called me up about it. Somebody got a package and it has some sort of white powdery stuff on it. Nothing is confirmed yet though. it was on the news briefly here. Damn, it is just 2 blocls north of me! :|

Damn that is to close for comfort. I just hope it turns out to be nothing...

I had it hit home last night as well. Supposably this sh!t was made in a hygenics lab about 1.5 miles from my house :Q

I had the same thing happen last Wednesday (9 days ago) with a package in a mail box. All these areas got roped off, elemetary schools locked down, etc. Then men in white suits take the sample to a larger city 1 hour away (Omaha) to do a 2 day test for Anthrax. The sad part is that I'm working on a machine that could have done the whole test in a few minutes (long before their sample made it to Omaha) and no one cares. They'd rather spend millions to make the phone calls from Omaha labs to Lincoln doctors easier and faster than give a dime to doing the tests here.

By working on it, do you mean you are a repair person or in the process of building it?

If building it, how do you prove that it actually works, do you have test anthrax spores?

If you are reparing it, who manufacturers the machine? Perhaps you should contact a news agency they may publicize the information enough that places around the country would order them for faster turnaround time on all these hoaxes that won't be going away for some time.

This is happening in almost every community. Here in Lex KY we had a scare 100 yards away from the place I used to live. white powder was found in an envelope made 3 people sick. Unfortunatly I think most of us have had scares in our communities. It is a sad day where the everyday man has something to scare his community to think that it could happen there where they live. Buck Up campers this is just the beginning I am afraid.

Look, these terrorists know they don't have many more tricks up their sleeve that could compare to the scale of WTC as security measures are cranked up. But, they can 'attack' the US by a method known as 'death by a thousand cuts'. One of these measures involves instilling constant fear of the unknown, such as "Will I get an anthrax laden envelope in the mail? Will I shake hands with someone who did?"

The effect of this type of pervasive fear can be more damaging than the anthrax itself.

Personally, I would not worry too much about it. People getting scared and panicking helps no one but the terrorists. Right now it looks like all these scares are by mail delivered to businesses or individuals. The two common threads are mail and a white powder or residue. If you have any suspicious mail, don't open it, and call the authorities if it makes you feel better. Most of us have some idea of the mail we get on a daily basis, and if something doesn't look right, you should be able to pick up on it. Anthrax is a germ, it just has more dire consequences if you allow it to take hold and develop. Wash your hands, use a good anti-bacterial soap, and you should be OK. In these trying times you have to use your brain. Stay aware of your surroundings and your life. If you do not and give in to the fear that these terrorists are spreading, then they have already won. Of course, once they start screwing with the water supply, that is something else.
