On the back of the box is a sticker that says Model # CW 5205.
Serial # AKC170f2535020439

I know it's not a liteon (cuz of the alphanumeric in the serial and no LTN), just wonder if it's a benq/acer/or whatever rebadges they do.

edit: it's an ACER prolly cuz of the 10 digit serial # or something

it is an Optorite

is that good or bad? It doesn't have that particular faceplate or round buttons it's a flat faced plate with 2 rectangular buttons. I hope it's ok, I just burned 2 cds at 52x and it reads/writes quieter than my pioneer 16xdvd drive.

yea I was reading that earlier but did not think it would apply :D . Oh wells I don't rip games so I'll stick with the optorite.

Did you find the model #? The model # I'm referring to is on the sticker (if there is one) on the back of the box that lists all the drives requirements/functions/etc..).

Well, I ordered on sunday and stupid retarded crappy OMAX has not shipped my HD yet. Everything except it is on it's way but no HD

I wish OM and all of it's employees. family, friends, and family of their friends as well as their family and friends would die horrible slow painful deaths.

Indeed it is an AOpen. Click here to go to the Cendyne Firmware Download page. Under drive model CDICD00118 it lists firmware for a bunch of drives. Pay careful attention to this entry:
If your serial number has 22 characters and the 1st digit is 9, click here
The click here points to file: AOpen_48x12x50_v104_oem.zip

That S/N format matches your drive. Thus, AOpen.

Does anyone know who makes these cendyne drives? I saw them at staples.

Model #: 5224W
Model #: 5224P

One of them had like 24 digits/letters in the serial
The other had like 25-26/letters?

Thanks

I did a quick search on google and found that a company called BenQ ( a company largely specializing in LCD's) makes the CD-RW's. They might have an association with Acer/AOpen, but I'm not totally sure about it. Link

I believe they both are. I did further digging and found out that Acer changed it's name to BenQ. acer's faq. If you want more model information go here.. Here's a review of the 5224P. I'm sure if you search for reviews on the net you will find something.

My local OM is substituting Hi-Val 52x's for the OOS Cendyne 52x CDRW's .. any idea brand these drives are likely to be? The OM employee said he thinks they're rebadges too .. They end up being $40+tax - $30MIR .. which is pretty good ..

random heads up on this one, but I ordered the Mad Dog DVD-rom and Omax substituted the Pacific Digital DVD-rom for it since they are completely out of the Maddog. The substitute price is $40, and it has a $20 MIR... so you end up paying $10 more than the maddog AR. You can probably call a CSR and get it knocked down $10 but the Pacific Digital is listed as $80... so still seems to be a deal. Dunno if anyone else has this substitution or not.

[*]Pacific Digital $10 OMAX-MIR (#62P) ;)
