Came into the thread thinking it had to do with Oman the country. Leaving because OP can't spell.

Jeez, who even knew Oman was a country. Clearly I failed 7th grade geography.

So are you working in the United States or Oman? I want to hear more about Oman.

Are you going to spend the rest on hookers and blow?

That will cheer you up.

Really? It looks pretty cool there. Were you just visiting family or was there another reason?

Dad worked out there. I have great memories of my time spent out there. It is one of the more moderate countries in the area & has had good growth and stability under the current Sultan. Like I said earlier, no taxes on income & cost of living is fairly comparable to here. 95% of what you find in the supermarket here, you will find over there (pork is included in that OTHER 5%, but if you want it...you can find it :D)

Salalah in the south is a great long weekend destination (~1000 kms away) (assuming you live/work in Muscat). Dubai is even closer at a 4 hr drive (1 hr flight).

Lots of off-roading opportunities (in the sand mostly).

Coincidentally for many, it is also the first time experiencing what getting raped feels like. It's just one of those unexplainable phenomenas. :\

Cool man. Sounds like an interesting childhood. :)

Yeah, then start figuring in 401k, Flex, etc... suddenly you have money for the future and not much for right now.

Imagine how depressed you'll be when you add up ALL the taxes you pay and what percentage of your income goes towards them.

Income tax, sales tax, gas tax, "sin" tax (taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, etc.), property tax, and many, many more! Hell, even inflation is like a tax on your savings!

Yup, took out 8% for 401k, I was kind of surprised that it was submitted in time for the first paycheck, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be. Not taking any flex$ for this year though, happily. Pretty sure I won't need anything until 2011. My benefits costs start coming out in September, but at least I'm getting something for that $25/paycheck.

Why would you hope that? Stocks right now are at 7 month lows. You should be thrilled that you got in on this paycheck.

Also, taxes are right near historical lows. Enjoy the low taxes while we have them.

Not really hoping, of course, or else I wouldn't have set it up already. But I wouldn't have complained if I had a little extra cash as I don't have a ton on hand right now.
