Damn, I have a 30 off 150 coupon officemax sent to my work. I was just looking at it and it is an online/catalog coupon. I hope they take it in-store so I can try to get a special edition.

I also have a 10.00 off 20.00 in store card they sent me to make the fuji-deal uber sweet.

They'll probably only honor one of them. By in store card, do you mean like a giftcard or a coupon? If its a coupon, like I said, only one will be allowed.

If what I've mentioed is correct, you can get deal 2 for $10 less. There is a $50 off $250 purchase floating around. On Deal 2 it only lists $40 off of the purchase.

From what I can see, the total on deal #2 is ~$200. You would have to add another item to get the extra $10 off.

Damn, I called around to the local office maxes, and the supervisors told me they dont honor officemax.com coupons :(

I'll also be in NY when this deal starts, so I have no idea if I'll have access to even try and get in on this, but I'll try like heck!

Thanks for the detailed info.

Anyone in the bay area know of an officemax that takes omax.com coupons?

I would love to score the special edition drive.

Aga just scored a Special Edition 120GB drive and a 48x CDRW!

I thought of a plan to talk them into the officemax.com coupons:
My reasons: (if applicable)
1. Its out of stock online, I bought one recently, I'd appreciate to repurchase it, I'll also tell them that If there is some way I can buy it online and get my money back on the one I own, I will, but its out of stock
2. If its in stock online: It'll save me from having to go back home, get the drive and returnit, then order one online. It'll be a hassle for me and them

More to come

I just secured mine, and on the sticker it says "3-Year Warranty"
A little bit further down it says "Buffer Size 2 MB"

Does anyone know what version I have? I'm not opening it yet in case OM decides not to take the coupon.

By the way, the tag in the aisle said 179.99 but it rang up as 159.99.

Looks like u got the 8mb one..so no problems..but hey u lucked out with a 3-mb one..prob left over and u got it..really good.

but the sepcial addition is better..now only if they'll be ok with giving it for the same price as the 2mb one with the coupon. thats the tricky part.

b) When the sale starts, take your SALES RECEIPT ONLY to your OMAX B&M
c) Have your OMAX B&M issue a refund of ALL ITEMS PURCHASED at the PRE-SALES PRICES
d) Have your OMAX B&M re-ring up ALL THE ITEMS at the SALE PRICES.

I dont understand these 3 steps. If I take ONLY sales reciept to my OMAX B&M, how do I get issued a refund on all the items at the pre-sale prices if I don't bring the HD with me? Do you mean have them refund me only the $30 sale price difference or the entire order?

man......this sucks. I'm looking to buy that WD120 hd, but I don't have a 30 off 150 coupon sent to me from OfficeMax. I tried asking the local OMAXs in my area but none of them accept the "online" 30 off 150 coupon that I printed out. Does this mean that I have no other option but to try to purchase it online on 4/27? Are there ways to get that last $30 off, making it ~$40?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... no, I do not mean have them refund you a DIFFERENCE IN PRICE. I mean EXACTLY WHAT THOSE 3 STEPS SAY. Back when I first started doing this (and brought my items w/ me), my OMAX B&M told me I didn't need to bring the items with me, just the receipt. There's no issue with ringing up a REFUND (even though no item is physically there) so long as the SAME ITEMS will be rung up as a NEW SALE immediately thereafter.

P.S. I've done this many times now w/o issue. I even performed this a couple of weeks ago at a different OM B&M than the one I normally go to.

I don't think there is a "regular" 3yr/8mb version. There appears to be a "regular" 3yr/2mb version though (which probably means that WD used to offer 3yr warranties STANDARD w/ their drives. If you get one of those drives, it's was probably sitting on the store shelf for quite a while).

Maybe you can get your hands on a Staples or OfficeDepot "$30 off $150" printable coupon. Your OM B&M may possibly honor those.

Note: I don't have any 3rd party "$30 off $150" B&M coupons (only on-line coupon codes which I look up when I need 'em!)

Bump for a hot deal. I might do this deal even though I need neither a 120GB HD nor another CD burner. :)

I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth $30 for the 8MB cache version....

I picked up an 8 megger last night at my local OM - they had 4 in the back. But I'm also pretty sure they're not going to honor the $30 online coupon in the store (I've tried before and gotten nowhere, so I'm guessing I'll get the same treatment this time). So to get the drive for $40 instead of $70 I'll have to order from OM.COM and take mine back.

Is the average user, who primarily downloads files/music while surfing the web, going to see a benefit from the additional 6MB of cache? Is the bigger HDD cache going to improve performance by buffering the music that's being downloaded while I multi-task? Or is the HDD buffer primarily used for frequently-accessed files, which would do me little good?

Didn't Storage Review or some such place do a side-by-side of 2MB and 8MB and find little to no difference in most tasks?

The 8 meg cache is a big improvement. Your boot times will be faster and overall performance will increase. How much will you notice, well I am not sure as I am only going on what others have said since I do not have an 8 meg cache drive. I am getting one as the testimonials prove that it is faster. As for whether it will buffer your downloaded music, I am not sure. I do believe that it will make the overall speed of you computer go up. Read some of the reviews. I would go for the 8 megger unless you get a great price on the 2 meg drive.

It seems to me that OM.com has both the 2MB and the SE version of the drives. So the later you wait to order online, the better b/c the 2MB will be out and they will substitute the 8MB version. Just in case they stop putting the drive online, you can always go to the store and ask them to order them. If you have the original coupons, they will take them when ordering b/c this consider to be catalog ordering.

There is no doubt in my mind that OM will substitute the 8mb drive for the 2mb drive..but my question is will the rebate still apply for the 8mb version.

a few ppl from FW.com have called in the WD number and asked..and the the WD folks have said that only the 2mb one is the one that qulifies for the rebate.

Now i have sent in 2 wd rebates and i always send it in with the UPC. and i do recall calling them to find out if they needed the UPC with the capacity code. and as i remember they did say yes to having both the UPC and the capacity lable.

The rebate is from OM and not WD. So if OM substitute for the SE version then they will honor the rebate. WD never give you this big of a rebate on the 120GB.

I've added a detailed blurb to the OP about the WD REBATE ISSUE. See the "REBATE ISSUES" section of the OP (bottom).

Aaah..no..i got a $80 rebate and $100 rebate from WD so they rebate can be from WD. i'll just call the number and check..bet its from WD.

Edit: it looks like the rebate is from western digital. so the 8mb is prob a no go. but what office depot can do is substitute the 8mb drive at the sales price without rebate...i have seen them do that before.
