There's no referral in the link that I'm aware of. It was copied straight out of the email from OM.

This is not the external version. The external is $89.99 AR.
i guess that's why you're a super fob. it's apparent he wants to get both!
I agree. Although it is nothing wrong buying more than one, how about sharing good things with others? I don't get it, either.Originally posted by: allisolm
I knew about this 3 days ago. I already bought 5 (YES COUNT THEM....5) of these babies and waiting to return/rebuy on Sunday.
Some people are always going to do this but I have never understood their need to come here and post about it. They know they're biting the hand that feeds them; they know they're committing fraud and yet somehow they think that people here will applaud them for it. I don't get it. :disgust:

5 names and addresses to use? How? Are you going to return and rebuy them all at once? Did you put all the drives on the same receipt?Man, the 80GB hard drive deal is old news. No...I know how to pay the rebate game very well. I bought the 5 drives all separately on separate receipts. I'm thinking about return and rebuy maybe all at once or 2-3 at a time. You don't need to have different names to get the rebate. As long as you have different addresses, it's all good. Think about it. There are so many people with the same names out there. I mean...there could be John Doe and this address and another at another address. So there wouldn't be any reason why I would be turned down. And plus, I've done before with no problems.
Thanks for screwing not only the retail companies, but eveyone else. BTW, this is against the law you know.

And you're just so damn proud of that, aren't you?

No, you should run for the hills before someone beats the crap out of you.

No it's not against the law.
A logical circumvention of this situation would be those friends or family members actually purchasing the product themselves. It's as saying they are buying it themselves.
This does not make this practice legal, of course. The fact that this crime (and it should be monikered that, as it is what it happens to be) is easily exercised by many and often does not carry consequences is irrelevant. Surprising as it may be to hear, there are some who possess a bit of moral fibre, and the intestinal fortitude to declare it when necessary (such as in this thread).I've known MANY people that have done this without a hitch. I BET you anything right now that the people who have read the deal on the HD's are doing that EXACT same thing I'm doing.

I would suggest actually perusing Section 1341 and Section 1342 of Title 18. One should have a knowledgable frame of reference prior to offering opinion of how their activities are under the letter of the law when they are in fact not.A logical circumvention of this situation would be those friends or family members actually purchasing the product themselves. It's as saying they are buying it themselves. This does not make this practice legal, of course. would it matter? just sign up for one of those 12 month no interest cc's and bam u got a spare $600. Then later use the rebates to pay it off, although it would look a little suspicious to omax. Having 5 purchases with the same cc and name but I'm sure he probably already thought of that...
Most rebates say Limit 1 per person/household. FYI, TITLE 18, PART I, CHAPTER 63, Sec. 1341.No it's not against the law. Out of the 5 drives I have, two of them are for my roommate and my uncle.
Of course the average joe on the street will treat something like this like he would a speeding ticket..Whoever, ... obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses ... shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

obviously you are unaware how credit ratings are generated

obviously someone was made aware of their credit ratings 🙂 oh yes please enlighten us with your knowledge...
I usually agree with laissez-faire, but his actions have hurt two parties. The obvious first are tomarrow's morning deal hunters. By that time the phone will be off the hook with people looking for these, the salespeople will know they're one per person.. last years BF I had to BRIBE some idiot $10 to get one of the 15 loss leader item in his cart. (Seemed better than tattle-tailing at time)Just because someting is prohibited by law, doesn't exactly make it "wrong" in a moral sense. It used to be illegal for african american people to drink out of white people's water fountains in the south. And until a few months ago, sodomy was illegal, too. And let's not forget the prohibition. Not trying to be an anarchist or anything, but it always amuses me when people act like man's laws were handed down on stone tablets to Charlton Heston by God himself. What he did might be considered rude, but hardly a crime that threatens the moral fiber of the nation. You're just pissed that he went a little overboard on the deal and want to make him seem like a criminal.
It's not like OfficeMax or Western Digital is gonna press charges or anything. The drives are going to get sold and the rebates paid out just the same regardless if one person buys five drives or if five different people buy them. I'm sure Western Digital doesn't mind moving the product and building market share. They probably want to get rid of all this older stock anyway to start making room for SATA product. ANd I'm sure that OfficeMAx isn't crying either, since WD is picking up most of the rebate bill.
If he wants to tie up that much money for the 4-5 months it could take to get back the rebates, so be it. If you weren't fast enough to get in on this deal, and other people got to it first and bought a bunch, TOO BAD. These are hard drives we are talking about, and it is hardly a life and death matter. If I've learned anything, it is that there will always be a better deal tomorrow, because the drives just keep getting bigger and cheaper. This is all just a game to most of us anyway, so don't dis the man for playing better than you.
The only thing I see that he's done wrong is turn this thread into something more fit for the Brag and Moan forum.
