I just bought this camera a couple weeks ago. I'm no camera expert.. I bought it because of anandtech's recommendation. But I can tell you that the auto-focus is very annoying in lower light. It just sits there and strobes the subject with the flash - sometimes never taking a picture. Maybe I should read the manual.

Just got mine for 541 plus tx

I talked to one of the guys at the store and he said that some stores are listing them at diff prices but its defininetly a clearnce item. The first store had it at 600 even then he looked on the system and directed me to another store that had it for 541 and only one in stock.

Also they will sale the display units as well.

I got mine for $246.44 (tax included). Yes $246.44.

Story:

Called store #1 (local to me) - not in stock but listed at $710. Gave me name of store 70 miles away.

Call to store #2 - have them at $530.00. Ask if can pay and have them ship to store #1. Am told I'd have to buy it at store number 1 and they'd ship it. Advised to call store #1 and see if they'll honor the $530.00 price.

Call to store #1 - won't honor the price because it's a "regional price" thing. HOWEVER, store manager at store #1 tells me that store #3 (about an hour away also) WAS selling them for $232.49!! They are however, LONG GONE at store #1

Call to store #2 - ask if they can ship to store #3 if i can buy at $232.00. "NO problem - we'd be happy to".

Call to store #3 - Tamia is MORE than happy to sell it to me at $232.49. Give credit card info - 3 minutes later i have receipt faxed to me. Tamia is going to call Kristen at store #2 and tell her to ship to me.

Call back to store #2 - Speak with Kristen. Advise I have receipt. Kristen already has it boxed and labeled with my name and ready to ship to store #3. Advise Kristen that Tamia will be calling her to confirm shipment.

Pickup will be in one week.

so a big YMMV but hey i got one of the last 2 they had at $232.00. Have to drive an hour each way to get it, but for a $500 discount, i'm all in!

lucky bastard! I was actually thinking about hitting a few more stores to see if I could find one cheaper. I haven't opened it yet so I can get away with not paying a restocking fee.
 
check all Best Buy along the West Coast using their online inventory system, found nothing. Except the one in West Hollywood, which has 2 in stock, but priced at $719

It will not show up online, I saw the same thing you did online and I laid my hands on three of them one of which is on my desk right now...... The Westminster location had one as of noon today. Both are display units....Costa Mesa has one more as of noon today. Coast Mesa is selling for 541 - managers discretion discount for display model and Westminster 600 even -15% for the display model. Make the drive you might get lucky around LA county.

I went to two in LA county to see if I can be like the poster above and get a luck 200 dollar one after i bought mine earlier today.

Signal Hill (long beach)
Long Beach Pacific Coast Highway - Had one but at regular price of 749

that should save you some time hehehe

i'm in michigan. store #1 was the southfield store, store number #2 is in east lansing and store #3 is in jackson. i called today to try to buy the other one they allegedly had in stock. they have zero now. shoulda got it, but hey, i'm not greedly. would have just ebay'd it anyhow, so hopefully it found a home with someone who coul duse it.

ya, thanks man. I live all the way up in Arcadia so all those stores you told me in LB and OC area are way to far to consider anyways. I may hit up the one in City of Industry and Pasadena.

just visited a few stores in So Cal,
City of industry, Pasadena are completely out of stock

West Covina has a display sample, but to me it looks kinda "beat up" with ppl finger prints. What worries me more is there are no lenses attached and body is sitting there, asking for dust to get in. The list price is $675 for the two lense kit
